Customer Questions & Answers

Where can I order a hand set for the remote controller?

Someone has asked if a hand set is available for the remote controller on this fan. The reply was that a hand set can be ordered. Can you please tell me, do I need to order the hand set through Home DePot? Will they need an item number or description in order to get the hand set for this fan? Do you have any idea of the price of the hand set?
Asked by: Karen
I just bought this fan. I called Customer Service when I opened the box and there was no remote control included. I was told to order Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan Remote Control, model # 70830, $29.98 from Home Depot online, delivery to the store is free.

will the cooper housing tarnish?

I live in south florida and wonder if the cooper housing will tarnish or rust quickly?
Asked by: gg
I don't know what a cooper housing is. The COPPER housing might tarnish if you live near salt water, which you do in South Florida. You can paint on a clear varnish if you're worried about it.

Does the Radcliffe fan come with a hand set for the remote controll or just the wall remote unit?

In case the hand set is not part of the fan, can I buy a hand set controll unit separatelly? What would be the specification for it ( preferable from the same manufacturer of the fan)?
Asked by: Antonio
It does NOT come with a handheld remote. It comes with a control box that needs to be wired into your power. I just bought this fan. Attached is a picture of the control box. The remote that Customer Service told me to order is Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan Remote Control, Model # 70830, $29.98 with free shipping to the store.

Customer Reviews

Radcliffe 52 in. Indoor/Outdoor Natural Iron Ceiling Fan is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful Fan with Excellent Lighting We just installed this fan in our new solid patio cover. It looks really nice, and the lighting is great. We sat in our patio at dark, and the fan provided perfect lighting. The one drawback is that we bought this because it stated it had a remote. It doesn't - it has a wall plate switch instead. Luckily, we were able to install the wall plate in the existing switch, but it would have been much more of a hassle if it didn't fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful! The fan is install in my sunroom and looks absolutely beautiful! I love the color! Although a remote control doesn't come with the ceiling fan, I personally love how the controls are install in the light switch. The light isn't bright, but I have four recess light which provide additional lights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Purchased two - they look great on our patio We bought the fans for our patio. Not only do they look great but they are well balanced, the light they emit is very good. The wall mounted control is also very handy but I did need to have an electrician conect the control.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Attractive and Functional I had two of these fans installed on a large deck. I really like the dark finish, and the blades have an attractive design on them. I was a little concerned that the fluorescent bulbs would produce a stark light, but the amber shades tone down the bulbs nicely, while still allowing the lights to produce sufficient lighting for the deck. The fans provide good air flow. I only gave it four stars, because, as some of the other reviewers mentioned, the fan does have to be hardwired unless you purchase the remote control separately. I feel the description of the fan is misleading in this regard.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Does Not Include a Remote Control! This does not include a remote control. It says in the Specification Details section that it has a remote control. The Product Overview used to say that it had a remote control, but Home Depot changed the wording after I called to complain. What you get is a wall-mounted control box that must be wired into your power. Whoever wrote the Details section should look up the definition of 'remote control' because it means 'wireless'. I paid extra to have fast shipping because our friend who was installing the fan could only do it on a certain day. Imagine my surprise when there was no actual remote included. I had to order a separate handheld Hampton Bay remote, which won't arrive for another week, so we haven't been able to use the fan yet. Outdoor fans should include a true remote. Why would anyone want to cut a hole into their outside wall? The fan took our experienced electrician friend 4 hours to install. He had to cut a square hole in the ceiling to accommodate the motor box, and the round fan base doesn't cover the entire square cut. There were a few scrapes on the plastic fan blades, which I easily covered with a brown marker. Attached is a picture of the fan 'remote'.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice fan - love the remote features This comes with the wall switch which is actually a remote device. There is no traditional remote but one can easily be added. All Hampton Bay fans/remotes are probably set on the same frequency but in case it's not, make sure you know the switch pattern of the receiver in the fan to match the frequency of the new remote (similar to older garage remotes).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is grate product, but... In documentation it says that it has reverse air flow, but remote has only three buttons for three speeds and one button for light. No reverse flow, this is not good.
