Product Overview

The Hampton Bay Rapallo Brushed Nickel Ceiling Fan offers a contemporary style with its brushed-nickel finish, 3 reversible walnut/light cherry blades and frosted-opal glass. The 3-speed reversible control makes it easy to change the speed and direction, and the flush-mount design is ideal for low-ceiling applications. Installing the fan is simplified with the twist-and-lock installation method that also helps to conceal the hardware. Uses two 13-Watt CFL bulbs (included).

Customer Questions & Answers

Can a dimmer switch be used with this ceiling fan with light kit?

Asked by: Wmwmwmwm3
No, at least not as it comes out of the box. The fan and light switches are all wired together in a single wiring block that connects using a simple block plug connector inside the light kit.. It makes installation of the light kit super easy, but there is no way to put in a wall dimmer switch for the light unless perhaps you would be comfortable rewiring the switches inside the fan to allow separate electrical connections and controls. Of course that would also require additional house wiring to the ceiling box to provide separate connections for the light and fan.

Can I put 100 w replacement LED or CFL bulbs in this lamp?

Asked by: BrianK
It holds two bulbs and uses a standard base bulb. I replaced the CFLs in one of mine with 60 watt LED bulbs, and it is very bright. One thing I like is that the shade lets a lot of light through, so 120 watts total is plenty to light up a room. As for 100 watt CFLs, I haven't tried them, but they are so big that I doubt they would fit well inside the shade.

Rapallo 52 in. Brushed Nickel Ceiling Fan is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 54.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from The pull-chain for setting turning the fan on/off/speeds has to wind its way around the light fix... The pull-chain for setting turning the fan on/off/speeds has to wind its way around the light fixture bulb housing and light glove, which creates too much friction when pulling the chain. It works correctly about half the time. I then tried to connect a remote control so I wouldn't have to use the pull chain, but there is not enough room in the housing for the remote's receiver. Overall, it is a good looking fan, but a very poor design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Mid-sized Fan This is a great fan. Very clean looking. The 3-blades and ceiling hugger design (no down rod) gives it a sort of contemporary look. To me, it is a little smaller than it looks on the web site. I did get mine at a store, so I knew it was smaller than what I was expecting. The 3-blade design moves a medium amount of air, and very quietly. I have two in a large (20x30 ft) family room. Moves air without blowing you away, even if you're sitting right under it. I liked the installation - it has a big, solid mounting plate. I wired it to separate fan and light switches. Gives a decent amount of light - good for "background" lighting, but maybe not enough for reading. I put the light circuit on a dimmer. I'm going to experiment with some different types and wattage light bulbs. There are three narrow based light bulbs in each light kit.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great decoration but lousy air mover I installed this a week ago. Looks great, easy to hang, too but it doesn't move any air. I've run it in both directions at all three speeds, and it is useless! Compared to the fan it replaced, the motor is less noisy but still hear that constant hum. Note. Don't use those rheostat style dimmer switches for motors as they will add to motor noise ten fold. I can sit under this fan with an 8 ft ceiling and not feel any air movement, because the blade pitch is too flat. I will try to add a shim to the blades to see if I can get it better. In general, we have purchased a few Hampton Bay fans and all of them are disappointments and over-priced for their noisy operations. If you buy this fan keep the box, packing material and receipts. Mine will most likely be donated to the Habitat for Humanity Restore.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Looks great, but doesn't really move much air We purchased and installed this fan in my son's bedroom with relatively few problems. Hint: be sure to connect the blue wire or the light won't work. However, after turning it on high and waiting to be 'blown away' - we were completely underwhelmed. It does create some breeze and it looked great in our mid-century rancher, but we returned it for a 5-blade fan the following week.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great style minimal function I took my chances after reading all the reviews saying that this looks nice but generates almost no breeze. If you look at the specs this is supposed to move about 4200cfm, same as most of the 5-blade fans, but I installed this and stood directly under it and it was tough to notice any breeze- I kept checking to make sure it wasn't running in reverse. On the plus side I think it's a really nice looking fan and it was easy to install- also comes with standard-base cfl bulbs, which is nice. I ended up returning the Rapallo and getting an Andross fan from Home Depot Online. The Andross fan doesn't look as nice in my opinion, but the function as a fan is far better. As others have said, only get this if you want a nice looking light fixture that can stir up the air a little bit but not really generate a noticeable breeze.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy if you want a fan that moves air. Had this fan in a small office, didn't move any air. The motor heated the room more than the blades could cool down.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I should have looked clossr at the dimensions Although this fan was nice looking and a flush mount with an attractive light fixture, at 52"it is much too large for the bedroom I planned to use it in. I will be looking for a similar one in a 42" to 48" size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for modern or mid-century retro look I bought one of these fans several years ago and needed a couple more for my new house, which has 8 ft. ceilings. It's hard to find a ceiling-hugger fan that fits well with a modern mid-century look, doesn't overpower the room, and works well. INSTALLATION: The round mounting plate attaches securely to the electrical box tight against the ceiling, so there is no concern about wobble. the plate has a hook to hang the motor from while connecting the wiring. The Installation is pretty straightforward. Just be careful not to let a washer fall into the motor housing like I did. That was a little tricky to get out again. The decorative housing just twists onto the ceiling plate, so there's no fumbling with little screws at the ceiling and no screw heads to interfere with the sleek appearance. PERFORMANCE: Mine produce good general light and air circulation for my rooms, and I have had no problems. APPEARANCE: Light, airy and attractive. Most hugger fans seem gigantic and obtrusive. This one has a svelte understated hourglass shape with elegant tapered blades, but it still does the job. I get lots of complements and questions about "where did you find that cool fan?"
