Customer Questions & Answers

does this fan have reversible blades that are darker than the picture?

Asked by: Homey
The blades are the same/identical dark walnut color on both sides and can be reversed. The pictures at homedepot.com look very light, they are not.

Hampton Bay ceiling fan model# 34005, can it controlled via my existing wall control?

Replacing a current ceiling fan. We now use a wall control to operate the fan which has an attached light fixture. The control and fan are part of the original build (we assume) and probably 25 years old. The wall control is a "Silentrol by Homestead". The design is dial with speeds of Hi, 3, 2 and low. The light in current fan is also controlled by the same wall control, separate switch. Can this fan with the light fixture be used to replace our current fixture? If yes, how do we alter the installation to omit the remote and use only the wall controls? Thank you.
Asked by: Woodside
I don't think so, there wasn't separate wiring for fan and light control, and nothing in the instructions to make the change. I would choose a different fan for your application.

Down Rod

This says it comes with a 3.5 and a 12 inch down rod. Can more down rods be added to give a total of 3 feet of downrod
Asked by: Deb1
Added? No, but you could purchase a replacement 3' down rod separately. There is enough wireing included to occomodate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ceiling Fan Love this ceiling fan! Fits perfect with our decor. Very quiet, many lighting options

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great - but difficult to install and find bulbs This was the exact fan we were looking for in terms of design and function and now that we have it installed, we are still happy withit, but .. 1) Read the instructions several times and inventory all the parts. One of the arms on the bottom llight kit was broken and we had almost finished the installation before we found. It took several calls to customer service to get a replacement part. 2) Replacement bulbs are hard to find - the bottom bulb is a 60 watt intermediate base bulb and we have to order the replacements over the internet. 3) If you have any other fans with a remote, be sure to change the code on this unit before you install. We didn't and had to partially un-install to reset the code.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unique, contemporary, complete package This fan replaced a larger fan with a 12" downrod. This fan fills the space better and looks complete and not like a fan with an add on light kit. I added LED candleabra bulbs to the top light and it gives just the right amount of light for evening television viewing and still be able to read by it.. The down light fills the center of the room extremely well and provides as much light as any normal ceiling light. Everything is included and everything works great. the installation requires some patience and a couple hours to complete.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fan Replaced our living room fan and this one is great. Both up and down lights dim on a remote. Not super bright lights but we didn't want that. We have a very tall ceiling and used a 6 foot downrod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great purchase This is a great ceiling fan, we love the lighting options and look. However, the installation instructions leave something to be desired. If this is your first or second ceiling fan install, plan for frustration. If you have experience, and you ceiling is prepped for a fan install, it should take about an hour and a half. If your ceiling is over 10 feet tall you may want to purchase a longer down rod. I would definitely buy this fan again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Abosultey Stunning We bought 2 of these fans, 1 we used with the 12" pole and decorative tripod in our breakfast area the other we installed in our great room which is open to the breakfast area, there we used the 3" pole without decorative tripod (you can't use the tripond with the 3" pole). My husband was impressed with the quality. We had been looking at the Craftmade brand that offered uplighting and downlighting (this is very hard to find) I have been looking at fans for the past year, and was jsut about ready to give in and buy the Craftmade which runs $650 per fan, when I came across these. SO GLAD I DID...I will be ordering several more for my bedrooms and some of the coordinating Rock Creek series. Very rich and custom looking.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Less than happy We bought two of this model fan for our living room about a year ago because they look so good---but am now replacing one of them. I would buy something else if not for the fact that wife loves the look and I'd have to replace two if I changed models. PROS: 1) look good 2) allow you to select either up-lights, down-lights, or both. CONS: 1) many parts --- hard to assemble and hang 2) insanely hard to access upper bulbs if they need to be replaced 3) both upper and lower bulbs are unusual types--- hard to find replacements 4) unit must be controlled by remote, can't be modified for wall switches 5) both fans were noisy from Day 1, making an odd sort of low humming noise 6) the one I'm replacing developed a very loud clicking noise that increased with fan speed (Other commenters have mentioned a similar problem). After taking down the fan and completely disassembling it, I determined that a thin nylon strip was rubbing inside the motor, but there is no way to access it or fix it, and no choice but to throw the fan away. (7) this model is no longer kept in stock and appears it soon will be phased out. My primary house has 11 ceiling fans. My 4 rental houses have 23 more, so I'm not a novice. Bottom line: These fans look good but are not worth the hassle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this fan This fan is beautiful and very grand-looking. I love all the features of fan speeds and the ability to light top and bottom lights separately and at varying brightness. I am very happy with this fan and would recommend to all.
