I've installed 4 (all Hampton Bay) ceiling fans at my house. The other 3 work great. This one was a pain from the start. A part that was supposed to be threaded wasn't (the staff was very helpful and indeed the replacement part they sent me was threaded - I had wondered if I was taking crazy pills until I received the replacement and saw the threading).
2 of the other 3 fans didn't require use of the balancing kit, and the third was quickly and easily balanced. This one I spent HOURS trying to balance. I tried using multiple kits at once (I tried one then 2 on the same blade, then 2 on different blades, then every possible combination involving 3 then I gave up on that path). I tried using colored electrical tape (to identify blades) and a slow motion camera to get a feel for where the center of mass was. None of that worked.
The other fans all had 4 rubber contacts with the ceiling and this one only had two points of contact (via the bolts). This means that the unbalanced nature of it invariably results in it swaying back and forth perpendicular to the line between the two bolts. I suggest downloading the instructions and looking at the base for any fan you're considering. (I wouldn't have thought of that if not for this fan.)
If yours is balanced the fan is actually really great. Even at high speed it's quiet (except for, in my case, the rocking). It puts out good air. You can definitely feel low, and it's pleasant. High (on my 9' ceiling) I'd save for crazy hot days. Any loose piece of paper will scoot across the room. Your eyes would dry out, but if you were hot high would feel amazing.
A huge word of caution. In talking to the replacement part staff, they've said they're no longer supporting this fan. They might have individual parts for it, but once they run out of that part that's it. I feel like it would be appropriate for this to be mentioned somewhere on the page for the fan. (Maybe it is - I haven't checked, and I did get the part I needed. It was just information I received and wanted to share with potential buyers.)

I ordered this fan online because it was not sold in store. I learned one lesson with this online purchase, choose deliver to store. I was disappointed in the quality of the blades on this fan. The pictures did not clearly portray the product. I learned that if I had chosen deliver to store, rather than my home, I could have returned it to the store. Instead I am going to settle for a product that I'm less than thrilled with, because it is too much of a hassle to ship it back for a refund. I can't comment on Ease of Installation, because I'm having it installed for me.

We bought this fan after looking at many different fans. We even purchased a different one prior to this but the look and ratings from others was what sold us. We were bummed they didn't sell it in the store but still decided to buy it. Great purchase and quick delivery!

Very easy to install, ceiling was already wired, so just a matter of connecting the wires! Overall, I'm very happy with this fan. It's very quiet, the light is bright enough for my living area, and it looks really nice. Only complaint is on high, it clicks occasionally, but it's not enough to be annoying. Otherwise, it doesn't make a sound. Installed about a week ago, so hopefully it remains quiet!

Really like the fan. Looks great in our family room. Works great. Thought it came with an "actual' remote, but it is really a wall switch where you can control the fan and light - works well though. Installation of the blades was a little difficult though, you have to screw in the blades through a little slot on the motor. It didn't specify this in the directions.

I bought this Hampton Bay Sidewinder Ceiling Fan for our downstairs family room. It took the place of a very contemporary three blade nickel ceiling fan which I moved to our game room upstairs.
I looked at a ton of fans but chose this one because it came in oil-rubbed bronze, came with an in-wall remote, and it appeared to fit well in 8 foot ceilings.
Installation took me about two hours but that included taking down the current fan. I've done over 50 fans over the years and did not find anything unusually challenging with this one. I used the 4 inch downrod which made it a tight squeeze when it came to the wiring. I also had a fair amount of wobble when I first turned on the fan. I took the blades off and put them back on in a different order and that solved the problem.
I really love this fan. It compliments our transitional décor and moves a ton of air. I also love having the reverse on the wall remote. The only negative thing I can say is the light bulb. I've switched about 70% of our lights to LEDs. The bulb for this fan uses 100 watts. I can turn on 10 LED bulbs and still use less watts than this one. I was aware of that when I made the purchase so it obviously wasn't a deal breaker. At any rate, I love the fan and I'm happy with this purchase.

This fan looks so contemporary, but really kicks up the wind. My only complaint was the glass globe was cracked, but it was replaced by Home Depot in a couple weeks. My contractor did not complain about installation, so I'm assuming it was good. I like the switch for the wall with independent controls for the fan and light (dimming capable too) -- that was a nice bonus, is easy to use and looks great. Overall, extremely happy with this fan.
