will these fit a 4.5"post-i have covers over my 4" posts
Asked by: bob
We "skinned" our wooden posts with Trex-style decking to match the deck floor. Removing the matching post cap, my husband screwed through the center of the base into the center of the post and then screwed the light on using the larger (6x6?) bases that are also included. There is a slight overhang all the way around which doesn't look too bad.

So we received 8 lights with a 1" thick black base and 6 lights with a 0.75" thick black base. Same model and UPC, just the specs changed. Not Home Depot's fault when they were picking from the warehouse. After 3 shipments and 2 visits to our local Home Depot we now have 14 lights with 0.75" base. They actually look "cheaper" in comparison to the 1" base. I surmise the 8 lights that my husband had installed and then had to uninstall were scrapped by Home Depot. He wishes he had discovered the change in base size sooner! It wasn't apparent until he opened the 5th out of 7 boxes! Home Depot customer service was spectacular and ended up discounting the lights for us due to our time and trouble. So far they are working just fine and holding the charge after being out for a week. We plan to take them down in the winter due to the harsh New Hampshire weather. If you buy multiples, open the box the make certain the base thickness is the same!!!

Good solar collection & batteries for longer lasting each night than others have tried. Costs much less than similar lights from other stores. Negatives are minor: Base lip over 6x6 post is too shallow to have screw holes catch wood hardly at all. Have lost & replaced 2 of 22 over time (18 months) because of birds, wind, etc., working screws out and losing in to lake. Because of that and loose connection slots holding light housing to base, I have glued housing to base on all and put longer screws thru top of base into posts. Longer lip on 6x6 base would correct (did not look at 4x4 base) and tab/slot design needs to be tighter or have some way to lock in place better.

They were very affordable and I liked the look of the copper. I wasn't certain how bright they would shine or how long they would give off light, but they actually do a great job of it! Do they shine "all" night? No. But they do shine (well, mine do at least) for at least 6 hours and for a solar light, I think that's impressive. As a second benefit, I like how this light comes with two bases to choose from - depending on the size of the post it will go onto. I have railing on a deck on the back of my house and used the large bases for those lights; on the front of my house I have wooden steps, porch, rails and I was able to use the smaller base on those posts. So yes, I would recommend these lights to anyone. :)

I bought 2 packs which means I installed 4. One of the packs included the wrong base. The light secures to the base by twisting the top onto the base after securing it to the post. Two of mine when twisted sit at a diagonal instead of straight on the post. So I have two at a diagonal and two straight on the post.

Both units failed just over 30 days after purchase. I contacted Homedepot and Hampton Bay with no response back. Supposedly these are under warranty, but there is no way to contact the company other than through Home Depots website. Now these are just for looks, with zero light output. Very disappointed, you get what you pay for .

We installed it on our dock, but it has a major disadvantage for that location. It twists into place but does not lock. If not careful, we can move it with an elbow, it untwists, and falls in the water! We are going to need to find a way to secure it.

The great thing was I did not have to change the exiseting mounting plates whiched saved a lot of time installing them. They work and look great. I really like the copper trim it matchs my deck.

The 4x4 mounts are a little large, so I cracked one while putting the screws in both sides. These are brighter than the ones I had a couple of years ago. All in all, I'm pleased with them.
