LED retrofit bulbs?

Has anyone used LED replacement bulbs in this downlight or uplight? I don't like integrated LED products, but I do want to use LED bulbs.
Asked by: frustratedshopper
I used LED bulbs on the bottom lights. The top lights are the same as christmas tree lights. I did see an LED repalcement at HD last time I was there.

Can the Hampton Bay Sullivan ceiling fan be flush mounted?

Asked by: Chris
I am sorry to say that it cannot be flush mounted. It has an up light on the fan and the shortest down rod you can hang on the fan is 4.5".

Love the dimmer capability and that this light shines both upward and downward and that they can work independently of each other. Dimmer works with both.

However there are no manual controls (i.e. pull chains or switches) on this fan at all. The speed, light and direction can only be controlled with the remote. I have a light + fan speed switch in the wall and was able to install this and get it working properly. I wired the fan's white and black wires to the wireless remote receiver. Then wired the white and black wires from the wireless receiver to the main black and white coming from the wall. Then I wired the fan's blue and orange together to the red wire coming from the wall. And I tied the blue and orange wires from the wireless receiver together (so they didn't connect to anything). The lights turn on/off from the switch and I can set the fan speed from the switch as well. I did need to use the remote, however, to set the direction. Lastly, there is a slight hum from the fan. I'm not 100% sure if it's because of the switch or not. At night with the fan off the "noise" is 34dB, with the fan on it's 40dB. It's not a huge difference, but if you are very sensitive to noises, you should take this into consideration.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great fan but when the Up-Light lightbulbs go out, there are no bulbs available on the planet to replace them The fan is beautiful (at least to me) and quiet. It has both an up and down light which is convienient. The remote is simple and easy to use. BUT, the fan has one increadible design flaw - when the up light light bulbs go out, there are no replacements for them to be found on the planet. Hampton Bay checked with the manufacturer (in China) and all he'll say is that they imported them and they are no longer available. Checks with the leading bulb providers (other stores, on-line, etc.) say they don't have any, either. The bulb is a 25 watt, candelabra-base (E12), with a T4 form factor. It goes into a circular confined area within the upper housing, so space is very limited. They do make a T4 bulb that fits, but it is a 15 watt bulb. This effectively reduces the upper light to about half the light output of the original design. Since the upper light is reflected light, it almost makes it just a dull glow on the ceiling. I've tried a 25 watt, T6 bulb, but it's too big and they also sell a halogen version, but I believe it is too hot for the confined area - and it's almost $11 per bulb. For this reason, I think everyone should pass on this fan - let the remaining stock set it the boxes. If they sell a fan you can't buy bulbs for, what good are they?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bad experience. Bought my fan via special order in January of 2011. My home was destroyed by a water leak so just now putting up our fans, etc. I had ordered 2 of these fans, one came perfect, the other had a broken globe & missing the copper trip that comes on the globe. They sent out a globe immediately but no copper trim. They say the trim is not a separate part & there's nothing they can do. WHAT??? I'm out of warranty also, so that's that. I want them to ship another one, but not pay the S&H, but they won't agree to that. Still an ongoing battle as of today.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Pretty & has Great Air Flow It's very unusual that my husband remarks on things are buy for the house, but he did remark on this fan & how pretty it is. We both liked the way you can just put on the upper light. It glows so pretty on the ceiling. It gives off plenty of air flow & I would definitely recommend it. I gave it 5 stars for ease of installation, but to be honest we had it professionally. I can assume it was easy because it didn't seem to take him very long to install it.
