how many lumens does this light produce?

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Hampton-Bay-Super-Slim-24-in-LED-Silver-Dimmable-Undercabinet-Light-Kit-with-In-Line-Dimmer-and-15-Watt-Power-Supply-S-Lincus1-US-3-K1/203142884?N=1z115g2#.UgBtyWRNZU4 I don't understand how you can sell a light without saying how bright it is. there are such widely varying bulb types. Even within LED there are huge differences based on number of LEDs, their quality, etc. Why would home depot list these without saying how bright?
Asked by: Anonymous
It does not appear in the product specs, but the output is very good. I often put it on the lower of the two settings which is generally sufficient. This fixture has excellent brightness and a good distribution for it application (under a cabinet, such as in a kitchen). Sorry that I could not give you the answer you desired, but I don't think you would find this fixture to be dim - I have seen some that I would classify as dim.

Installation method

The specifications indicate that these lights are plug in, can they be direct wired. Also is the color of the lights bright white (which I want) or cool while?
Asked by: Sail4912
Yes, they can be directly wired. I just cut the plug off and directly wired it under the cabinet. (I also trimmed the other cables a bit too) As for the color, it is bright-to-warm. They have a nice warm glow, but bright. On the back of the light, the sticker says "WARM WHITE". Personally, I really like these lights. I have 9 of these in three separate strings all directly wired to one light switch.

Does this unit come with a transformer. If so is there a similar light that does not require a transformer??

Asked by: Mikeyg
Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot, Mikey G. This LED light comes with the needed power supply to complete the installation. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Thank you for shopping Home Depot.

Customer Reviews

Super Slim 24 in. LED Silver Dimmable Undercabinet Light Kit with In-Line Dimmer and 15-Watt Power Supply is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product and Installation but a little on the expensive side! Just thought I would quickly post my recent experience with these LED light strips. First, I'm not sure why they are so hard to find on the HomeDepot site, because they are made by Hampton Bay but are not tagged correctly so they can't be found unless searching by the model number.... but assuming they fix that here is what I found. The lights themselves are excellent quality and reasonably bright, perfect for under cabinet installation! They look great and have a great light, though they say they are warm the level of warmth to the color is mild making them nice and pleasantly white. NOT as bright (or blueish) as Daylight color or as yellow as other warm LED's (I bought and returned a set from IKEA because they looked yellow compared to these). They match my warm flourscent bulbs perfectly. They are dimmable, but on the downside the dimmer is not a full dimmer, it is a momentary switch that toggles between 3 settings: 100%, 50%, and Off. On the bright side they have (though quick 1 second) fade in when power is turned on. Plus, they DO remember the last setting they were set to when unplugged/plugged . . . or when plugged into switched outlets like mine are. I installed 5 of the 12" lights around my kitchen. Two are daisy chained together (as each light comes with a coupler to add another light on the end) to cover the area over my Sink. One of the slickest parts about them is that the plug is easily removable from the end of the power cord. This has 2 purposes: 1) You can trip the power cord to length so there isn't extra cord for you to hide under your cabinet, 2) with the Plug removed, the cord is VERY easy to feed through small holes through your cabinetry to a concealed outlet (as mine are inside the cabinets themselves. VERY well thought out in my opinion and worked amazingly for me. The one issue I had was with the installation hardware, as the screws are longer and after putting in the first one, I quickly realized they will punch through into my cabinet as my paneling is fairly thin . . . so I did NOT use hardware. After brainstorming I realized they were soo light that some general purpose velcrow should do the trick. Picked up some packs of the .5" general purpose velcrow squares (used 2 squares per light, 3 for each power supply/converter, and a half square for the switch). Worked Exceptionally well! The velcrow left just a small enough gap that the light itself could hold up the excess wire to/from each switch. So hope this helps someone else. If you're looking for a great led light switch and need the benefits of the installation of these then I definitely recommend even though they are a little pricier than other models.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great quality product I have been searching for an affordable yet clean and cool undercabinet light solution for a while. Although some online stores seem to have cheaper lights, the fact that I can return it to any HD stores easily made me decide to give it a shot even after I read mixed reviews. I have to say this is the best decision so far I have made for under cabinet LED lights. I have to clarify two thing mentioned in previous reviews: 1. YES, you can link two 24'' together, it won't burn your transformer, as each is about 7W. If you buy 12'', then you can link up to 4 of them. 2. NO, there is no fatal design flaw. Simply follow the instructions and smooth the wood surface after you drill a hole before you put the bracket on. I do feel the bracket is bit too tight though, so for my second light, I put only one mounting bracket. I hope it doesn't fall off. I'm not a very handy man, but I can say you really don't need a professional for the installation, and it won't take you more than 20 min.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, but unclear packaging and ins. manual The lights worked great once I made sense of the packaging and the instruction manual. (I found the same for the 12" and the 18" models.) My issue was that it says "linkable" but the instructions didn't say how many, just that it depends on the power supply (which can handle up to 15W). I saw 8.48W on the Lighting Facts found on the back of the box but also saw 7.1W listed the sticker located on the back of the light fixture. So which is it? Upon calling customer support, they cleared it up that the 8.48W on the Lighting Facts was how much power the whole kit uses vs just the light itself, which uses the 7.1W from the label. Thankfully I called first otherwise I would've linked more than one power supply could handle. They also said that I could combine the different lengths so long as the total power from the fixtures didn't go over 15W. Just wanted to share what I learned so others wouldn't have to also call in to check. Hopefully the packaging and manual can be updated to make things more clear.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Previous Review Inaccurate The previous review regarding link cables is inaccurate. Each box comes with a light fixture, power transformer and one link cable. You can connect multiple fixtures for up to 15 watts total power draw to one transformer. This equates to a maximum of 2, 24" LED fixtures per power supply. More than 2 of the shorter length fixtures can be linked together, as long as total power of all linked fixtures is 15 watts or less. Overall the light is bright and nicely dispersed. The transformers can be mounted. Only downside is the length of the low voltage cable between fixture and power transformer is short, so remote mounting the transformers means you need to cut and splice low voltage power cord. Not hard to do, but not ideal. Some sort of adjustable cable connections would be helpful.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Once it was installed - I liked it I bought this to replace a florescent light fixture that fizzled after a month. (I'm convinced the lighting police had something to do with that). I could have replaced it with another inexpensive florescent, but they're not that inexpensive if I have to replace it often. I decided to bite the bullet and use LED lighting. I wish the store would have had these on display. It's hard to judge the adequacy of the light without seeing it. I noticed a lot of opened packages on the display. Maybe they had been returned, maybe other customers just wanted to see what you get. This web page doesn't have a representative photo either. Take a look at the installation instructions to see all the components. This is not like installing a typical plug in light fixture. First you have a power supply, the some low voltage wire to the dimmer / switch and then more low voltage wire to the light itself. There's no provision for you to shorten the wiring for your specific needs, so instead you must come up with inventive ways to hide small bundles of wiring. And the ends of the wire segments are pretty large, so drilling holes in the cabinet floor to stash devices and cables is kind of out the question. Funny, they make the light itself so attractive yet they know all that wire and stuff will be in the same place - I don't get it. There are mounting holes and screws for the power supply. Buy some shorter screws while you're at Home Depot for the power supply. The ones they. give you are way too long and would stick up through the cabinet floor. The screws they supply for the light mounting brackets are OK. Make sure you 'dry fit' the light into the brackets before mounting. There's a couple little leaves I'll call them on the base of the bracket designed to 'push back' on the light for a secure fit. My brackets were pushing back so hard, I couldn't get the light inserted the first time. A dry fit first will eliminate your frustration. The inline dimmer / on / off switch just kind of hangs in the breeze. They do not provide a way to mount it. So, while you're at Home Depot, get some double sided tape. The kind that has some of that cushy foamy stuff in between is what I used. I tried regular double sided tape at first, but the backside of the switch must not be real flat because it rolled a little. Problem solved with the foam tape. (Maybe the manufacturer could throw in a piece) Despite the elevated cost (which I justified because LED's will live longer than me), and the design issues I wrote about, I like this little light. The engineers that designed it must have had something in mind about the installation. They should share their ideas with the rest of us - seriously; make a video or more complete instructions. There will be fewer returns and greater sales. Oh, by the way, the actual lighting for my project was just fine. The light is well distributed from the back of the counter top to the front. The light doesn't travel much side to side though. So if you have a 24" wide work area to light up on the counter - you better get a 24" fixture - if you get only a 12" your counter will be dark on the end(s).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great undercabinet light Used this to replace a fluorescent undercabinet light. Very happy with the light it provides -- wish the "low" setting were dimmer -- seems like about 70% of brightness, don't need that for nightlight function. Based on other reviews, I didn't even try the mounting clips. I just used three 1/2" squares of double sided tape, and it has held up fine. This is undercabinet, so you cannot see the mount. If you could see the attachment to the surface, the tape might not look as good -- not sure. "Fair" value just because all LED products are too high priced right now -- I just wanted to give it a try.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great light, cheap mounting clamps The lights are brighter than I expected but for the money they should produce great light. Two light levels but can only be changed using in line switch for each light. If using for under/over cabinet lighting like me you pick a level and stick with it. The light units themselves are only sold as complete kits, meaning if you string two light units together you have unused power units. Also clamps to hold them in place are cheap and don't always hold the under cabinet lights in place. Overall I am pleased but should be for the premium price for these units.

My only complaint would be the cords are too long, at least for my cabinets. I used tie wraps to wind and shorten them. Easy peasy.
