Answer:
It wants a dedicated always on power circuit - one black-one white, that said, I hooked it to one existing switch from my old fan and removed the other switch (which used to run the fan light). If I flip the switch it's on now it will "remember" the previous setting from the remote and kick on the fan/light or whatever I had going previously.

Answer:
There is only one feed to the ceiling fan so you can only turn off all power with a switch. The remote is needed to turn on the light. I mounted the remote where the fan light switch was to make this more convenient.

Answer:
If used with a wall switch you will loose the fans medium and low speeds. 2nd and 3rd speeds are controlled by the receiver and remote. Please call HAMPTON BAY for assistance.

Answer:
This was is listed as 'standard', and upon viewing the instructions for it, requires at least the downrod included to be installed with it.
However, you can choose a flush mount fan online or at your local store that can hug closer to the ceiling.

Sussex II 52 in. Brushed Nickel Ceiling Fan is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 61.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from SO glad I purchased this product I am very pleased with the purchase of this fan. This is a beautiful piece to add to my living room. This was an easy installation process as well. I would recommend anyone to purchase this fan if they want a modern look at an affordable price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stylish look. Dim light. This is a great looking fan. The one light design doesn't provide enough light. It also has no way to control the fan without the remote. Bad idea in my opinion.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great look and price Love the simple and modern look of this fan. It was a great price and works perfectly. Came with a remote control for dimming the lights and fan speed, which is very convenient. Fan is very quiet. The only thing I wish was different are the light bulbs. I wish it would hold the normal bulbs with higher wattages for a brighter light. But when the brightness is all the way up, it is not an issue so really doesn't bother me too much (definitely not a deal breaker). Very stylish, when trying to stay away from the typical ceiling fan look. We are very happy with this fan!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I really like this. Very nice unit and very pretty once it's up. Gives off a good amount of breeze. Only problem is the toggling of the remote. After getting a ladder, installing the product, it's not syncing all that easily, so we have to go out, borrow another ladder and keep playing with the set up..It goes on by itself, shuts off by itself and goes faster and slower by itself. My suggestion before you complete the installation is to run it a couple of days or don't take back the ladder or put it away in case you have to sync the remote. Sometimes the wifi seems to interfer but there is a solution..We just have to get back up there and adjust the inside electronics. Other than that, I really do like this, but if you're not into doing this on your own, I would suggest getting one that you pull the chain on and off..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE this ceiling/fan light!! I looked online for a few weeks to find a ceiling fan/light for our kitchen that would compliment the modern light fixture in our Dining Room and this is a perfect fit. We have 12' ceilings so we added a 24" extension rod, we put the grey side blades down and we have received numerous compliments about the fan. Installation only took an hour, even with the extension rod. I am VERY happy with my purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's ok Updated the fan in my sons 11x13 ft bedroom w/ 10 ft high ceilings. Did not purchase a separate extension rod, the one it came with gives it the perfect height and provides great air flow throughout the room. I only give it 3 stars because the light is not very bright. Also, the light is delayed when I flip the switch on the wall and when using the remote, only by a few seconds but still annoying

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful It wasn't the simplest fan to install, but the end result is exactly what I wanted. Good fit and finish, quiet operation, and the fan perfectly accents the deco style of the room it's in.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Decent fan, bad instructions at the end. Fan looks nice once installed, as previous reviewers have noted this fan wants one black and one white wire and I had to remove a wall switch from my old fan installation (which had one switch for light and one for fan) to make the wiring work out OK. Biggest drawback was the instructions on the last 2 pages. Incredibly hard to follow and I've wired 8 lights in the house in the last week and a fair number of switches. Make sure you have the light set up correctly for the glass to screw in before attaching the plug in connectors (because if you don't you'll end up having to re-strip those wires to switch things around and use wire nuts). Anyway, fan looks good, air movement I'd rate at only so/so vs other fans I've had but it works for the space and this was a fairly inexpensive fan. Biggest drawback was the last of the instructions - mounting bracket picture and explanation sucked. Also, I'd love to see a better method of retention for the glass - it screws loosely in place on some fairly wimpy looking dimples. For something that moves constantly... I'd like to see a better glass retention design.
