Customer Questions & Answers

can the lights be run with a dimmer switch?

Asked by: james
This light comes with CFL bulbs and the power is coming from the connector at the fan. In order to put a dimmer switch on, you would need to run another leg of wiring to accommadate this as well as having the proper dimmer to dim CFLs

Speeds?

Does this fan have 3 speeds similar to other ceiling fans? It's not noted in the description.
Asked by: CSNY18
Yes, it's 3 speeds, even though it's not in the description. It has the standard pull chain, and like most fans you pull once for low, pull again for medium, and pull again for high.

Customer Reviews

Trentino II 60 in. Indoor/Outdoor White Ceiling Fan is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent investment Initially, after I removed the parts of the fan from the container and looked at the assembly instructions I thought that this was going to be a complicated task, but surprisingly it was very easy to put together. Once assembled the unit sits snugly in the ceiling bracket while the electrical connections are completed and at a 34lb weight, one person can fit it with no problems. Love the way the design of the fitting of the blades has done away with screws to fit them. Now it just a simple matter of aligning the key slot holes, press down and slide forward into the spring mechanism thus locking the blade securely. The quality in both looks and operation is excellent. There is a reverse switch for winter setting and it really does appear to keep the bedroom warmer by moving the warm air from the ceiling and down to where it’s needed. The only thing I was a little disappointed with is the supplied CFL spiral light bulbs. Not only do they appear to cheapen the beautiful appearance of the unit as a whole, but have no protection. I have opted out of using them and instead replaced them with a different kind of CFL that is of the reflected type. But the changing of the type of bulb used is my preference and should in no way deter away from the beauty and outstanding performance. Very quiet motor and excellent air flow that exceeds my older ceiling fan even when set on the low setting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Good Product! This is a good-looking fan and excellent at circulating air. In fact, I wish it had another, lower speed, since even at its lowest speed the air moves fast enough to blow papers. I bought the fan, however, to supplement the air conditioner, which is slightly too small to cool my bedroom enough for the hot Texas summers, and this job it does admirably.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yes!!!!!!!!!!! We couldn't be happier with our new Hampton Bay Trentino II ceiling fan! PROS of INSTALLATION: Because it was being installed on a very high ceiling, we had to also order a 36" extension downrod. Because of the height, we hired an electrician to install it. The day of installation two electricians showed up. We warned them that the ceiling fan might be very heavy, as that is what I had read in reviews, but they didn't seem to think the weight was an issue at all. They had a VERY tall ladder. The electrician on the floor handed the ceiling fan up to the electrician on the ladder and it was installed in record time. I rated the "Easy to Assemble" as a PRO because the electricians found it very easy to assemble and install. PROS of USAGE: This fan REALLY circulates the air! When it is set to HIGH, the tablecloth on the small table in front of our window blows like crazy, and the drapes on the sliders to the right of the fan also billow with the breeze. It is VERY quiet compared to the 26-year old fan we replaced which was quite noisy from the very beginning. I love that the Hampton Bay has several speeds and I also love that the lights can be dimmed. Even with the fan being so high, the light bulbs were a breeze to screw into the three sockets. The old fan we replaced had a schoolhouse type globe that had to have screws removed in order to take it off and replace bulbs when they burned out. Tha's always a pain, and when you add in how high the light was, it was a very difficult job. This one is so much easier because there are no globes to remove. CONS: The light bulbs that came with the fan are not dimmable, so we had to purchase three 60W dimmable bulbs ourselves, but that was a minor issue that was easily resolved. Again, we are very pleased with the Hampton Bay Trentino II ceiling fan we purchased! It's very attractive, very quiet, and it really circulates the air!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too many problems First: This is a very nice looking fan that is relatively waterproof and the air flow is impressive. That's the end of the "good" stuff. This was a nightmare to deal with. Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. The very first step in the installation became almost impossible when I tried to "remove the canopy ring (B) from the canopy (C)". After several minutes of investigation, I found the secret technique in this step. You must pull (not push) on the ring while rotating it clockwise. Apparently there is some obstruction in the part that prevents normal removal. This should have been detailed in the instructions. Next, the instructions are written as if the fan is already partially assembled, which it was not. This needlessly complicated the process. Next, the electrical diagram has labels for the wires that have nothing to do with their function. If you are going to use labels, at least give them some significance. For example, the green "ground" wire is labeled "XX", the white "neutral" wire is labeled "WW", and the black "hot" wire is labeled "VV". Ridiculous. Why not label them ground, neutral and hot/line? The rest of the installation went smoothly until it was time to plug it into the outlet. The fan made an extremely loud humming/groaning noise and turned extremely slowly, no matter the switch position. After checking everything in the installation, being an electrical engineer I guessed that the wiring was wrong or the motor was defective. By coincidence, I also noticed that the lamps did not light. After an hour of checking wiring I noticed that the motor would change speed erratically when I moved the electrical connector in the light kit housing. I removed the light kit and found that all the wire connector pins were loose in the white plastic connector body. I marked all the wire colors and pulled out all the wires. They should have been captured in the body, but were not. I adjusted the tangs/barbs on each connector pin and reinserted them, making sure they were retained properly. After reinstalling the connector and light fixture, the fan and lamps worked normally (almost). The fan wobbled quite a bit at the highest speed, so I ordered the optional balancing kit using the 800 number for HomeDecorators in the manual. It arrived within a week. Unfortunately it only contained three 3 gram weights, and this fan requires more weight to correct the imbalance. I tried to order another kit, but this time after using the same 800 number, I was greeted by someone at HomeDecorators who had no idea what a ceiling balancing kit was, and assured me I did not order the kit from them. I gave up and used clothespins to balance the fan, and that is how it looks today. What a mess. Never again. Too bad because after all the problems were solved, it performs well. I have to believe anyone with less than some extensive knowledge and experience with electrical equipment would have given up after a few minutes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good buy I had the electrician install 5 of these fans because of the large wrap-around porch area and increased ceiling height. I was quick and easy. Even on an open porch, you can feel the air movement and this will allow us to enjoy using the porch during the coming hot muggy summer heat. I think this model has the highest air flow that i could find on the Home Depot website. The remote was "paired" with this particular ceiling fan at check-out and it seemed a little pricey but is also working well with the fan. I have no complaints.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Fan for the Price Fan is well made and installation was easy. Performance was much better than old 6500 CFM Hampton Bay fan. It has 10,212-CFM which makes a big difference in outdoor fans and comfort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice fan I install it on my patio and was easy to assemble just follow the instructions. Well balanced and quite running. Moves a lot of air, probably twice as much as the 52" I had before.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fan This fan is quiet and has great wind speed. At full speed, it is like standing in strong wind. Very satisfied,
