can both wall switch AND remote be used at the same time ?

Basically, our current fan runs off a wall switch. Basic switch, one to turn light on and off and one to turn fan on and off. If we want to change speed of the fan, we have to pull the chain.
I would like to know if this fan can be wired to be controlled on the same wall switches (on / off for both fan and light) PLUS using the remote control to control the speed of the fan. Or would I have to either use ONLY the remote or install completely different wall switches that control the speed of fan (not something I want to do) Long story short, can I wire it into the wall switches while using the remote as well ?

Answer:
No, it's best to use the remote that came with the fan. The wall outlet may not work properly with the fan or the light kit.

Hi Lu. Thank you for your interest in the Tropics fan. If you install the remote control, you can only use one wall switch to turn the power on/off. If the remote receiver is installed, you can not use a wall switch to control the fan speed and a separate wall switch to control the lights and use the remote as well. You can bypass the remote and wire the light wire directly to the wall switch so that you Read More

Answer:
The fan can work off the existing wall outlet but may not function properly, we tried using our wall outlet but had disabled it because caused conflict in the operation of the fan and the lit kit.

Hi El. Thank you for your interest in the Tropics fan. This fan would work with a variable speed wall control and separate light switch. You just can't use a dimmer switch to control the fan's speed.

The fan cannot be operated by a pull string. It is only operated through the remote control that comes with it and through a wall outlet.

I had an electrician install mine. It comes with a remote, so I don't think it has pull strings. I had the remote housing taken out of my fan since i already had the room wired for my on/off fan and light switch. I just looked at my fan and I do not see any "holes" for a pull string on the finial, it is a closed finial. I will try and find the instructions and re comment.

The instructions included in the package doesn't state that a longer rod can be order for the fan. I would recommend that you know the degree depth of your ceiling prior to purchasing it because the radius of the angel is important and should not be a depth larger than 14 -15 degrees. Some have noted that have purchased a longer rod but had to rig it to work properly. The best thing to do would is call Read More

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by love love love I bought 2 of these fans for my Great Room, replacing wicker ones that came with the house. They were fairly easy to install, just having to re-connect existing wiring (my honey installed them!). The only thing I might warn is that buried in the instructions is a 'warning' that the angle must not be more than 15 degrees. That information would have been most useful someplace in the specifications or details page. It did work out OK even though my angle is more than 15 degrees, but FYI that should be taken into consideration. April 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful Fan! This is a beautiful fan and quiet. The only thing I would change about it is that it runs by remote only, there is no pull chain. However, I would buy it again. Well built and sturdy October 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful Fan, Happy with Purchase! The ceiling fan is beautiful and well made. The only thing that I think should be strongly noted throughout the instructions and on the advertisement of this product is regarding the depth of angled ceilings. The advertisement reads that this fan can be installed on an angled but the actual instructions are for a flat ceiling. Before purchasing this item I recommended that you the degree depth of your ceiling because it can be very difficult to install if the angle is more than 14 - 15 degrees from the ceiling. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Rich quality, VERY expensive looking Purchased this fan for my son's jungle themed room (pictured) and it is perfect. It is a very high quality fan and is very fast on high speed. The fan blades are very rich looking and I believe real wood -- they look carved anyway -- nothing cheap looking at all about this fan! Would look great in any tropical/beach themed room or a sunporch! August 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great fan Love this fan! Looks good and runs good. Would definitely recommend. June 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Attractive Fan Easy to assemble. Fan puts out plenty of air. The light kit is very attractive. The blades could be a little wider, but the fan puts out plenty of air. March 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great looking tropical fan I love the looks of this fan. This is our second one, we bought it to match another of the same fan that we have had for 9 plus years; even moved it to our new house along with a matching chandelier. February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BEAUTIFUL!!!! LOVE THIS FAN!!! It matches my décor perfectly. It is well made and provides a lot of light. I had it professionally installed as I needed to have it shortened. I would definitely buy this product again and I would highly recommend this product if you have a tropical look in your home. October 12, 2015
