Customer Questions & Answers

How do I remove the globe to replace the light bulb?

Asked by: Rae4
So what do you do when tapping gently doesn't help loosen the globe? Really wasn't looking to "bring the fan down" just to change the light bulb, given that would require removing it from the ceiling.

Can we get a longer rod to make this fan hang lower- further from the ceiling?

Asked by: Anonymous
Fan comes with a 12 or 24 inch extension. If you need longer, get it from your hardware store.

do you have to use the remote for this fan

i dont want to use the remote
Asked by: mary
Yes. You can set it, then use the switch and it will come back on the way it was set. but the remote is the only way to change. Also, there is no separate wires for fan and lights, so you can't have each on their own switch

Windward II 54 in. White Ceiling Fan is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 366.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great, efficient fan but problems with wireless remote receiver The fan was easy enough to install. However nothing in the instructions said what to do with the 4-inch remote receiver antenna wire. It didn't respond well initially under the metal fan enclosure so I pulled it out to expose it and the fan worked perfectly for a week. Then suddenly the fan stopped working on low speed setting and ran at low speed when set to medium. It continued to run normal (fast) at the high speed setting. I got quick customer service from the installation help phone number. They surmised a faulty remote receiver unit and promised to ship me a replacement receiver with installation instructions. Hopefully it will solve the problem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Windward II 54 in. White Ceiling Fan - Works well, nice design, many pros, no negatives... I like the design of the fan, example: to reverse the blade directions counter-clockwise to clockwise directions, in other words from the winter to summer. All you have to do is push the reverse button on the remote control. The remote control has been designed with the end user in mind, very smart. No need to get a ladder to toggle any switches located on the fan housing. The fan is quiet, energy star rated, remote controls turns on the light, and reverse directions feature of the fan ect... I am not a very good handy man around the house, but I tackled the job of installing the fan myself, and it works. I especially love the lifetime warranty feature. That means they stand behind their product.

The remote must be held right in the fan to work. While this is not acceptable, the only solution I have been offered by Home Depot is to send a part that would have to be replaced in the fan. I have already had to pay twice for installation privately for a fan that still does not work. While the appearance of the product is nice it clearly will not operate as advertised and as I have said this is the second one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor quality fan - only good for 3 years I bought this fan and paid about $200 for this fan. The remote of the fan start giving problem right away. You turn on fan, light starts or you turn on light fan starts. Did everything to match frequency and all. Do not buy this fan. Its not worth it. I called Hampton Bay customer service and try to get help, they are asking me to pay $60 for the replacement parts. This is some kind of joke - I have to pay $60 for $200 fan. I rather throw this cheap quality fan and buy another fan for $60. I bought this expensive fan thinking it will last longer but it only last 3 years. So if you are Ok to replace fan every 2-3 years, then it might be a good option for you. I was thinking it to keep for 10 years at least. Very diappointment with Home Depot and its Hampton Bay product. Never buying their products again - I will try Lowe's this time.

I tried a new light and that didn't work then they send me out two ballasts but that didn't work. Now they will likely send me out a receiver and who knows whether that will work. Remodeled my loft and the most problematic thing has been a fan that should install and work out of the box but has been expensive and time consuming,
