We already had a windward III of undeterminable age, it finally gave up. This one was in stock at home depot, went up like a breeze (pun intended). We had originally wanted white, but the stainless steel look is excellent. 'looking forward to replacing several other old dogs with these slick units.
Definitely would recommend this fan to others looking for an energy efficient, quiet, classy, good looking, did I mention quiet?.. Get one or two... they're grrrreeat.

This was my second fan of this style. Love the modern looks and remote control for temperature and light control. Well written instructions for easy installation.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by MSinBK Fan + Included Bulbs + Remote DESIGNED not to work together!!
I love the way this fan looks, and now that it’s installed, I’m very pleased.
Included in the box are two non-dimmable CFL light bulbs and a remote control. We discovered that the light flickers unless you kill the power to the fan completely. This also means that the light must be on while the fan is on. After trekking to our local home depot, we were told this is due to the way the remote control works – when you hit “off” on the remote, there is still a low level of current going through, and that causes the light to flicker. The only way to solve the problem is to buy a dimmable CFL, which Home Depot didn’t stock, and we literally had to go to three different stores to find, at almost $20 a piece (you need 2). It was an extremely frustrating day. We later went online and saw this was a very widespread problem.
In summary, I am very confused as to why home depot would sell a product set (Fan + bulbs + Remote) DESIGNED not to work together. For that reason alone, I would not recommend buying this fan (or this brand).

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by GJ56 Don't buy it!
CAUTION. I bought three of these to use in our three bedrooms. In one of the bedrooms it died after 2 weeks of use and after the light kept flickering on and off...and that was when it was turned OFF. Then it dyed completely. I bought another one to replace the dead fan and it died again! Again, I foolishly return the broken fan and got a new one only to have this 3rd fan die! Then the fan in the second room died completely after 2 months of use. I tired of these fans dying on me. The fan in the 3rd bedroom is still working only because we rarely use the 3rd bedroom. Don't risk or waste your money, time and effort on this fan! It looks nice, but in the end it is not worth the aggravation. I finally bought another fan.

I purchased two fans replacing two twenty year old fans. The engineering is incredible, more air without any noise. The remote allows setting a temperature and the fan will come on at the set temp and shut off when the room cools down.
The light has two cfl bulbs (included in box) and will eventually pay for itself.
I discovered that the fan design was pioneered at a university in Florida. I don't know why this fan is available on line only...
I discovered this fan in a CT house that I rented and searched until I found it.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by TB1953 OK, not as good as same model we bought in store few years ago.
This model has motor hum and matte finish white and does not respond to the remote reliably. we had an electrician install them yesterday and neither fan responds to light dimmer remote control. They are louder than same model we bought from HD maybe 6 years ago more shiny white.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by merandhi Looks as expected, major difference from previous versions
The Windward design fan is perfect for my living room which is large, white and modern. The large blades spread the air around the room which has a very high ceiling. However this version does not have remote control for the forward and reverse mode of the fan (unlike previous versions). That is a major hassle and was NOT indicated in the online promotional material. Had I known that before ordering I might not have gotten this version. That option was a major reason I loved this fan. Unfortunately there is no other similar fan on the market with this design. However, it has a manual reverse switch, and if you don't use that option often, then it is an excellent fan. I used to use the reverse mode every evening. Now I need to climb up on a ladder to switch it over which I don''t do every night. So this is a major issue for me.

If your looking for a great modern looking fan, this is a great choice!
Remote works great, a little too busy for us, wish it was simpler, and I wish the remote was backlit, can't see at night. The remote is programmable for auto on/off at different temperatures which is nice feature.
The lights do work independently from the fan, can have light on and fan off. The two lights were more than bright enough for us. Wish they were dimmable. Someone mentioned we could get some with less wattage if we wanted less light. The glass bowl cover is very easy to remove to access lights.
I did a flush mount so I cut off the mounting bracket that the fan hangs on to accommodate for the thermostat. I used two nylon cable ties to hold the fan close to the bracket while I wired it.
When wiring please make sure outlet box in ceiling comes down far enough flush with ceiling for flush mount to twist on or you will not be able to screw it on. Test without fan first. If using standard ceiling install, make sure the slide thermostat receiver between the mounting bracket or it will not fit.
Would have rated fan a 5 if the light would have been dimmable and the remote would have been backlit.
