Customer Questions & Answers

Does this kit include the roof shingles

Asked by: Anonymous
It depends on where you live and what you want to do with your shed. If you want to grow vegetables all winter, face it south, where it will get the most sun. If you want to start plants early, but you are in a hot environment (like Arizona), you may want to orient it to the north, or east, where it will get light, but not as much direct sunlight. Too much heat is a bad thing, too. The best thing to do would be to talk to gardeners in your area, or try the professionals at garden shops in your area, and see what they think.

Should the solar panels face a particular direction?

Should the solar panels face a particular direction (east vs. west) for maximum sunlight? I'm trying to figure out which side i should have the door installed.
Asked by: Lola
I'm no astronomer, but I think if the panels face south, you'll get maximum number of sun exposure.

what is the exterior siding? Is it a cheap looking vinyl surface? If so, can one substitute real wood?

Asked by: carpenter
The Phoenix siding is all wood based

Shipping time

How long does it takes from ordering online until delivery at local store. My location does not allow curbside delivery from large trucks. Road is too difficult for them to negotiate and turn around. I'm in the "outback". Will pickup with trailer at store.
Asked by: AllstarPT
Yes, this can be picked up at a local Home Depot.

Phoenix 10 ft. x 8 ft. Solar Shed with Floor Kit is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice shed I purchased this green house shed several weeks ago. It took about two weeks to arrive and 2 days for someone we hired to build it. Had some trouble with the door fitting in the frame due to the board that was in per the instructions. I really wish it was offered in a 10x10. 8x10 is pretty small. I purchased this for my cats that have bathroom issues in the house so this is a great cat house. Putting in a cat door this week.i was able to put a resin love seat, 2 chairs and round coffee table as well as 2 tall cat trees so they have places to sleep. I have a portable heater in there that heats the shed up nicely. A little worried about the heat in the summer but I will purchase the Shades for the windows. I've insulated the walls and put plastic ove the insulation for now. Will drywall soon. You are basically purchasing a shell. You need to spend additional for: Roof shingles and other necessities you'll need for the roof Insulation and drywall if you choose I purchased a 9x12 one sheet lenoleum floor and cut to fit. Looks great and easy to fit

Other than that, the kit was complete. It took four full days from start to finish, one full day to build and level the foundation. We used screws instead of nails. Quite pleased overall.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Phoenix Solar Shed The product is good but make sure you are set up with a handyman to help you unless you can put it up yourself. Some of the quotes I got to put it up were more than what the unit costs!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it I couldn't be happier with this shed, which I am using as a winter sunroom in the Denver metropolitan area (Colorado USA). I have insulated it, and on a sunny 30 degree (-1 C) day, I can count on the shed to reach over 70 degrees (21 C) by the warmth of the sun alone. My kit arrived in excellent condition with no broken or missing pieces. I built the floor kit and attached it to three 4”x6” skids that rest on a level bed of gravel. The kit is compatible with a variety of foundation styles. I chose skids in case I ever want to move it. I had never built anything more complex than bookshelves, but I the instructions with this kit were easy to follow (except for the door installation -- that part was a little obscure). My husband helped with a couple steps where heavy things needed to be lifted and aligned. All the rest I did myself. It was so satisfying when all the windows slipped into their slots on the first try! Some of the required roofing materials have to be purchased separately -- shingles, drip-edge flashing, roofing paper and roofing nails. I don't know why they aren't in the kit, but this does allow you to choose your colors for the flashing and shingles. It took 3 bundles of 3-tab shingles and 50 feet of flashing. I used only a fraction of a roll of inexpensive roofing paper. You also need some caulk to go around the windows. This kit was a treat for me as a novice builder. I learned to do something new and saved money by building it myself, and now I have a warm, sunny room to use in the winter for reading and other projects.

You can not go wrong with this shed because it comes with a peace of mind warranty against things like termites, which was a big concern for me, and I'm sure if you look into it there are other valid things under the warranty as well. I would recommend it to all who loves gardening or not! My only wish was for it to have also been available in a bigger size and for it to be installed by the manufacture.

Overall, we are happy with the end result of building this shed, but it was not without some issues. There were a few minor problems, like a warped 2X4, a missing 2X4, and a missing 1X3, but I had enough spare lumber to replace them. The directions are better than many, but some of the illustrations could be better, especially in regards to small spacing and offsets. There was some confusion about the screws, where several times the wrong screw was called for or pictured, but catching that was a no brainer. The one area I had a major issue with is that it appears the directions were originally written for the shed with all shingles and no windows, and then the window installation instructions were added as an afterthought. I felt that the issues of drip edging around the windows and the transition from windows to shingles was lacking. For example, it says only to "be sure the shingles overlap the windows by at least 3 inches". On the opposite roof, shingle side, you start the 1st row of shingles by sealing a narrow backwards piece to the drip edge and then putting the 1st row over that, but there was no discussion of how to start the 1st row over the windows. In addition, I added a 2nd drip edge at the bottom of the windows over the foam sealing tape , otherwise the foam was left exposed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shed/greenhouse! I just finished putting together this shed/greenhouse this weekend and I'm very impressed. It's solid, very roomy, and goes together easily. One nice feature is that the rafters all have a 1/2" hole in their gussets for you to run a copper or plastic pipe through to hang plants (the pipe isn't included.) You can't really add this after it's built, so pick up eight feet of 1/2" pipe with the kit. I only ran into a couple of small problems: The 2x6 short wall header was 1/2 inch shorter then it was suppose to be and one of the joist spacers was cut crooked. Luckily I had some spare wood pieces laying around to fix that. Also, the description doesn't mention that you need to order your own drip edges - you need 60 feet worth (6 pcs.) You need to install the drip edges before installing the windows so don't put off buying the drip edges until you get the rest of the roofing material like I did - order them along with the kit. Some other tips: The end walls (the 10' sides) have their footer plates split in two pieces (page 11 of the instructions.) The join of these two pieces doesn't meet on a stud and thus are pretty flimsy until you get the wall nailed to the sill plate. Use a scrap piece of 1x4 or 2x4 to bridge the footer to help stiffen it up. The instructions mention that glue is optional on the rafter gussets - in my option it should be mandatory. It will easily double the strength of those trusses. One tube of liquid nails or an 8 oz bottle of wood glue is all you need. If you want to glue all of the paneling to the studs for additional strength like I did, plan on getting a total of 5 tubes of liquid nail adhesive. The roof trusses are only tied to the tall wall with two screws. If you live in a high wind area pick up three rafter ties (search for "H2.5 Hurricane Tie") for 30 cents each for extra piece of mind. Grab an extra 2 pieces per 4' extension you buy as well. Lastly, do your elbow a favor and rent a nail gun and air compressor. Hammering close to 800 nails by hand is very tiring. A box of 500 2" galvanized ring shank nails, and 500 galvanized 3 1/2" nails is what you'll need. This kit is delivered in a 4' x 8' x 2' bundle on a skid and weighs about 1000 lbs. I also ordered the 4' windowed extension with it and they strapped it to the top of the main kit. That added 4' x 8' x 6" of height and weighed about 200 lbs more. Hope all this information helps!
