I used to use this for shop templates, sacrificial backer for CNC routing, temporary coverings, etc. It worked okay, but being unfinished on one side has always been annoying. It also breaks easily if not handled carefully.
I used to be a fan of this product until I forced myself to go into the blue-box store (I really hate the blue-box store). Their hardboard is WAY better for the same $. It is smooth on both sides, stronger, and doesn't break just looking at it. This stuff is trash by comparison.
HD - please stop carrying this and get the stuff that the blue box sells.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Toolman Big ugly sticker won't come off of smooth side
The hardboard itself is fine, but who the heck decided to put a big, non-removable product code sticker on the smooth side (one of my pet peeves)? My purpose in buying the hardboard was to make a protective cover for a table on which I do hobby work. I scraped at the sticker for 5 minutes and barely got 10% of it off, and where it came off there is goo from the sticker. I don't dare use solvent on it for fear of delaminating the hardboard. Why not put the sticker on the back? Dumb!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 66Lincoupe Perfect for auto upholstery
I was looking for replacement material for the door cards in my classic car. After looking at the available material the upholstery shops carry I found this hardboard at a much more reasonable price. It is exactly the same thickness and texture as the original hardboard panels removed from the car. It cuts and drills easily and holds staples well. Contact adhesive takes two coats to adhere well but the material is basically wood so it will soak up the first coat of anything applied to it. I am pleased with the results and will definitely use this material again.
The only downside I can mention is the material is very messy when cut. It creates a very fine dust so wear a respirator or at the very least a mask when cutting or drilling.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Frankly Great product for our needs
We used this to protect a highly finished epoxy concrete floor during an installation. Layed it over protective plastic then taped the seams with 4" wide tape. Held up fine with 10,000 lb. forklifts and cranes running over it for 2 weeks, no breaks or rips. This material is textured on one side and smooth on the face. We went face up.
Also shopped Lowe's and their product is slick on both sides and seemed cheap by comparison.
