Product Overview

The Kidde i12060 is an AC/DC powered, ionization smoke alarm that operates on a 120V power source with 9V battery backup. This alarm uses ionization sensing technology. Ionization sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles (associated with flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible particles (associated with smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms. The front load battery operation speeds installation and reduces battery replacement time and effort by eliminating the need to remove the alarm from the ceiling. Alarm is packaged with two universal adapters that allow easy installation when replacing other branded smoke alarm.

  • Front door battery provides easy access which reduces the installation time and battery replacement time
  • Smart interconnect feature
  • Battery pull tab prevents draining battery until permanent AC power is connected - reduces callback's for battery replacement
  • Dust cover provided protects sensors during construction
  • Ionization sensor with nominal sensitivity of 0.50 to 1.06% ft. and temperature operating range is between 40 Degrees F and 100 Degrees F and unit includes a piezoelectric horn that is rated at 85 dB at 10 ft.
  • 9-Volt battery back up (21025830)
  • Piezoelectric horn is rated at 85 dB at 10 ft.

The alarm keeps chirping. I hit the reset button and it will stop and then start again a few hours later.

It's hooked up to the electrical so the battery can't be dead. Any ideas?

Answer:
seems to be a design flaw. The battery space is too large and doesn't allow tight fit of the battery so the unit thinks it is weak

If the unit has been in place about 2 years or so, the battery could actually still be slightly under voltage, as even wired units seem to draw a tiny current from the battery (perhaps to test it?). If replacing the battery does not help, you may have a defective unit. I had the same issue, with the chirping mainly starting when the weather became cooler. Answer:
Hello Tonya, This alarm has a low battery hush feature. Pressing the test/reset button will quiet a low battery chirp for about 12 hours. Even though this is an electric unit, we recommend changing the battery once a year. Please try a fresh battery. Please call Product Support at 1-800-880-6788 if you have any further issues after changing the battery. Thank you.

Red light every 30 seconds

I read the manual and there are reasons for a red light to flash every 40 seconds, but mine is flashing every 30. I replaced the battery in each of my units tonight after one was chirping. About 30 minutes later, a different unit with a fresh battery started chirping. I tested the battery and it was good. Nevertheless, I put the old one back in. The chirping stopped, but then the red light started flashing once every 30 seconds. I've tried several batteries and none have increased the interval to 40 seconds. Is something wrong with my unit?

I have several of those units and they all flash at 30 seconds. Must be a typo in the manual, because they are working fine

The alarm has a cycle it goes through where it performs a number of actions including making the red light flash, checking the smoke chamber for smoke, checking the battery, checking the alarm and other functions, and then repeats. That interval is however the alarm takes to complete its functions. It sounds like it is okay with the new battery as long as it tests properly and doesn't chirp but please feel free to call us with the alarm in hand to Kidde Product Support at 1-800-880-6788 and we would be happy to review this alarm with you. In alarm condition, when the alarm senses products of combustion and goes into alarm, the red LED will flash one flash per second. The flashing LED and pulsating alarm will continue until the air is cleared. When the units are interconnected, only the red LED of the alarm which senses the smoke or is being tested (the originating unit) will flash. All other units in the interconnect system will sound an alarm but their red LED’s will NOT be flashing. In alarm memory mode, which provides a visual indication when an alarm has been activated, the red LED will illuminate for about 1.5 seconds every 20 seconds. The memory will remain activated until pushing the Test/Hush Button resets it or will time-out between 11 to 13 hours. In an interconnected installation only the memory of the originating alarm will be activated. In hush mode, the red LED will illuminate for 1.5 seconds every 10 seconds. Answer:
Hello JRO. Yes, this alarm has the same plug as the 1275. The new alarms do come with a wiring harness that is slightly different than the wiring harness of the much older models from the 90's and is made to be easier to take out of the back of the alarms, but the old wiring harnesses will work with the new alarms. The wiring harnesses can get brittle as they age and the plastic or the wires can break. Read More

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 83 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by do not recommend Bought 5 of these We installed all 5 using the batteries they came with. It wasn't long before 2 units started chirping. changed the batteries. Chirping started again, put in new batteries again. Finally, I ordered 2 replacements. (bad decision). Still having problems. After further research, I found same complaints, due to manuf error, and allowing the battery space to be too large so the battery can not make good contact. The units think the battery is weak. I live 4 hours from a Homedepot so I didn't return them, just lost the money. But I went to Costco and bought some 10 year alarms, for about the same price. So far so good. No chirping. No battery to replace. I would highly recommend something different then this Kiddie brand. July 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good product Easy to install because of the adapters included. Installed 3 in my son's house. So far so good. Will see if they work for a full year. If they work for a year I will add that to this evaluation. May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy installation I'm renovating an apartment and there was a missing hardwired smoke detector in the hallway. The connector, hanging from the ceiling, was an exact match for this model so I didn't need either of the two supplied adapters. The backup battery was included and the unit works perfectly. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product and easy to install. I replaced all five of the existing smoke detectors in my home. The old ones were ten years old. With the adapters included with the new ones, installation was a breeze. April 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Smoke detector replacements Replaced all detectors in house, these are a good choice as battery is very easy to access compared to others. They were very easy to replace as adapters are included if needed. Needed 9 fo my home , just wish they had better bulk buying options. March 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love these! After our power went out several times within 10 minutes, our old smoke detectors would go off at random times and were difficult to silence. We also realized the old ones were expired. I purchased the new ones at Home Depot and installed them myself. I didn't need any new connectors because the old smoke detectors were made by Kidde. I changed the housing on the ceiling without any issues. I replaced five of them in less than an hour. An added plus is that we don't have to take the detector down to change the battery when it's low, whereas on the old ones we did. Just push the battery door and it pops open, change the battery, and push the battery door shut. January 7, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by made replacing my fireX simple Kidde bought out fireX and those were the detectors I had to replace. The adapter allowed me to simple replace the base by loosening two screws and replacing old base with the new one and then the adapter allowed me to use the old harness and not have to replace it. The only hard part was connecting the adapter to the new detector. Even when I pinched the new adapter to connect it I found I had to use a small flat edge screw driver to make the connection but after the first one all the others went in smoothly. Easy to install and saved me time. January 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install/Retrofit Had to replace smoke alarms throughout the house (6) due to false alarms. The devices were 12 years old. It was a simple replacement due to the plug-in nature of the detector. March 2, 2016
