What is the difference between a sink base and a regular base?

Asked by: johnsover
sink base has only corner blocks in the top. with no boards going across the top it leaves an opening large enough for the sink to fit into.

Customer Reviews

Ready to Assemble 36x34.5x24.3 in. Sink Base Cabinet with Double Doors in White is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from just what I wanted I ordered this cabinet for home delivery and it arrived quickly and on the date I was told it would arrive. My hope was to turn it into a kitchen island, which we did, and it turned out very well.I had someone assemble this for me, so I can't comment on how easy or difficult it was, but there were no parts left over, so I was happy.... Customer service kept me informed as to when it would be shipped, and the shipping was free. I am very pleased with the service I got and the quality of the merchandise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inexpensive but looks good It's an inexpensive laminated fiberboard base cabinet. I attached a 4' countertop and am using it as an additional work surface in a kitchen I'm remodeling. It ships knocked-down and assembles easily with a Phillips screwdriver and a little wood glue which is included. The instructions are easy to follow and well illustrated. I had to add 1/4 inches of shim stock under the countertop so the front edge would clear the doors. The European hidden door hinges are fully adjustable and allow for perfect door alignment. The cabinet does not include door hardware nor are the doors pre-drilled for any. It serves me well as a storage cabinet and is of ample size for any standard 22x33 sink. It's not high-end but it looks good, is sturdy and works as advertised.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Damaged peices Overall a decent product fro the price. I would have given it a higher rating, however, the disappointment was that 3 pieces were damaged. Had to do the work so did not have the time to return the product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Specs listed by mfr. aren't exact The manufacturers specs that are listed are not exact. We ordered three cabinets for a project I was doing for a rental house we own. We ordered the following: 12" 1 drawer, 1 door base cabinet; 36" 1 drawer, 2 door base cabinet; and 36" 2 door sink base cabinet. The two long cabinets were to be put side by side and the 12 " was to form the short leg of the L. We also special ordered the counter top with a sink cut out based on the specs of the cabinet mfr. When I dry fitted everything together I realized that the counter top wouldn't cover the cabinets. I took the counter top off and measured the two long cabinets total width. Per the mfr. specs it should have been a total of 72". In fact it was 72 1/4". Since I had bolted the two cabinets together to form one unit, there was no gap between them. You couldn't slip a human hair between them. I measured the small cabinet to find that it was 12 3/16" wide instead of the stated 12". I assembled the cabinets per the instructions and made sure that they were tight fitting and had no gaps, so that can't be the reason for the extra width. Yes I tried moving the components closer together in the corner so the counter top would cover them. That created the problem of the drawer not being able to be pulled out or the door not being able to be opened because the opposing side was too close. Now I have a custom counter top that is too short for the cabinets. Had I known of this problem beforehand, I would have added an extra 1/2" to both legs of the L to account for the sloppiness of the mfr. Another problem I have with ordering these cabinets is the shipping and handling. They were shipped UPS. They were shipped broken down in approximately 4"x 40"x 26" boxes ( the smaller cabinet is smaller of course). Of the three, two had been dropped on their corners and had damaged components. Luckily the corners that were damaged just happened to be on parts that would be hidden from view so I didn't return them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from not what I expected-again 1)Came in a box - don't know why I expected an assembled cabinet. 2) The doors were pre-drilled with one higher than the other.3) no center brace on bottom panel - so any weight on the center causes it to sag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product This base is easy to assembly ,but I changed the use I install a plate at the top ,and one shelf, in the mid of the base let it as a wide use cabinet . That is very nice .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good cabinets These cabinets are suitable for a garage, laundry room, rental or maybe a lake cottage. I wouldn't use them in my kitchen. They are RTF coated MDF and are pretty sturdy as long as you use wood glue in all of the joints. The tiny bottle of fake Elmer's glue that they come with isn't sufficient so make sure you buy a bottle. They are not perfectly square when assembled and the dimensions can vary by as much as 1/8". I put two 36" cabinets in my garage and the cabinet width was 72 1/4". You always have about 1/2 to 3/4" cabinet overhang on each end so your standard cut width countertops will be too short. Just make sure you install all cabinets and measure before you order countertop. Also people complained about damage in transit. I had none to mine but I had them shipped to the store for free and picked them up. I figure if I get them at the store and they are damaged they are liable. Just a thought.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Screws on hinges Screws do not secure door hinges correctly. Door came out completely the other day and had to reattach hinge. Have not had problems with Ikea products which we have a lot of experience.
