Customer Questions & Answers

can i turn off the dusk to dawn feature and just use the light as a motion activated light.

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes. At night, it can be set to either a low light level, or off. In either setting, motion will turn it on full brightness. You can set the timer to 1, 5, or 10 minutes. It will stay on longer if motion continues. There is also a function where you can manually turn it on and off.

How high off the ground can it be mounted (so that the motion sensor functions properly)?

Asked by: Anonymous
I have one at 6' and one at 8' and both operate perfectly. The one at 6' sees motion at least 30' away, and the one at 8' is mounted by the front door and only has a narrow alcove to scan, and it works perfectly, too. I've purchased my second one, having had the first one for 3 years now with flawless operation. I hope this is helpful.

Our light is no longer working. Do bulbs need replaced? If so, how do we go about changing the bulb?

Asked by: Anonymous
Remove the 2 Phillips screws on the front of the unit. The entire front can then be pulled straight off. You will see a glass fixture around the bulb, held on by silver clamps, one at each end. Simply grab the glass and pull it directly down. The bulb will now be exposed. Using gloves (in case it should break), grab the bulb and push it to the right, against an internal spring. This will result in the left side of the bulb losing contact with the fitting on the left side, at which time you can swing the left side down and free from its contact. The right side will now drop free, too. Install a new bulb in the reverse manner, again, inserting it on the right side and pushing to the right to gain some room for inserting the left side. Remember to wear gloves again, not only to protect your hands from possible breakage, but also to keep oily residue from contaminating the bulb and shortening its life.

Light has stopped working

I love this light, and the whole neighborhood knows my house by my light. Unfortunately, it has stopped working and has been discontinued by Home Depot. Bulb was replaced, but that didn't fix my problem. HD has a replacement light, but it only has 2 stars and is priced too high. Can I rewire this light and replace the motion sensor, hoping it will come back to life. I purchased a dusk to dawn light from HD, but it is too bright and attracts all the bugs, no yellow bug bulb available.
Asked by: sam48
Installing a replacement sensor is an option and can be purchased at the store. We recommend you follow all directions clearly that come with the replacement sensor when installing.

Customer Reviews

180 Degree Outdoor Halogen Motion Sensing Bronze Security Light-DISCONTINUED is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 48.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product - Highly recommended As of Sep 7 2011, I have had this product for about 2 months. I bought it because it was the only light that had a combination of all of the features I wanted: A. Motion Sensing B. Dusk/Dawn operation C. 180 Degree coverage. D. Variable illumination time. E. Short-range (up to 30 ft) motion detection. Installation was easy - I replaced an existing decorative light with this one on an up-stairs terrace that can be accessed from neighboring roof tops. This compact light completely lights up the terrace. The short-range motion detection is great, because it doesn't sense birds flying by or the motion of nearby trees. It may not be the most decorative light, but it more than met my expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good looking - works like a charm I usually don't like to order anything which I cannot feel, smell and kick the tire - but this was a surprise. I ordered 3 units and after they were installed, even my wife liked them - She thought I had gotten spotlights. These lights contribute to the appearance of any house. The motion sensor range is stated conservatively, it is greater than specified. We use the dusk-to-dawn feature, which in the low-wattage stand-by mode will show anyone where the entrances are - and then really lights them up with the high-power mode for easy identification. Both low and high intensity modes - due to the intelligent indirect lighting design - are not blinding the visitors, but bathing them in light. The high-output mode can also be programmed for 1,3 and 5 minutes. All that is handled by only 1 light bulb. Thanks, Home Depot

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product works great. I bought two of these motion lights for the back of my house. They definitely work well to light the pool deck. They look great on the back of the house. They have a low light setting that stays on from dusk to dawn. If there is movement they get much brighter. They have a setting for how long you want them to stay brighter. I set mine for 5 minutes. They are well made and easy to install. They look better than the traditional 2 bulb flood lights and don't shine directly in your face. Mine are mounted 9 feet up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Got two; Getting a few more now These are beefy and bright! I love how they stay on at 50 watts unless there is motion and they go full power (100watts.) I am buying more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Performs as advertised. Hard to install. The product performs as advertised regarding area coverage and motion sensing distance, Product quality is well above the average import. Installation was made much more difficult than necessary due to poor design execution and incompatible hardware. An adapter ring is provided to mount the lamp - it fits between the lamp and a standard electrical switch box. Biggest problem is that the ring is dimensionally inaccurate and does not exactly match the holes in a standard switch box. I had to drill and tap an extra hole (#8 size) on the swich box to match up to the adapter ring screw slots. Second problem is the provided screws are much too long for attaching the lamp to the adapter ring. A bit annoying. Finally, there is a foam rubber pad on the back of the lamp which appears to be a weather seal against the adapter ring. As such, it would obviate caulking the lamp side of the adapeter ring. Unfortunately, this foam pad is somewhat smaller than the adapter ring which therefore requires caulking anyway. These problems are not sufficient grounds for rejecting this product - just a warning that some "improvising" might be needed to install it..

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good. Easy installation. Works well. Bought sight-unseen. Some of the pieces are flimsy, but if you're careful in installation, you'll be OK, because once it's installed, you won't have to handle any of it again. Installation was very straight-forward. It's well sealed from the weather, if you use the recommended caulk for sealing. After 2 weeks since install, it works great. The optional dimming mode is very nice for low light security, and the motion sensor works at least to 30 feet, providing enough brighter light to startle a deer. Or maybe even a criminal. Might be worth 5 stars, except for some of the flimsy parts I mentioned above. I'd buy another and just be careful with installation again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great porch light! Classy installation admired by anyone of taste!! I have received many compliments about this halogen light from my renters, and its bright light offering more personal security to these tenants. I gave it only 4 of the possible 5 stars only because of the poor design of the included universal installation-ring that allows the correct vertical orientation of the light when mounted on a wall. The ring is a great idea, but the slots themselves should be recessed somewhat to allow either a screw head or a nut to not interfere with a flush mount of the back of the light against the wall. But, all-in-all, the light itself is a joy to behold, and I would surely recommend purchase of this unit. Home Depot certainly has a REAL winner here!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Attractive and bright - wish it worked for me. Does not turn on except when I open my door - even when I approach across the lawn. Sensor probably not directed low enough. Will return.
