Answer:
If the heat source moves, it will trigger the light. Which is sort of the whole point of an infra-red motion activated light.

Answer:
Although I am not sure heat is supposed to affect the operation, I find that on very cold days the light sensor will function differently if it is subjected to heat. I BBQ outside often and it seems to set the light off occasionally.

Answer:
Turn the light off for 4 days and let charge for 4 days then turn back on
Note i recommend this light for medium to light traffic areas
if the company made a larger watt panel such as 25 watt panel i would give it a High traffic use rating

Answer:
It shouldn't do that unless you have it in 'test mode' (the little switch under the IR sensor housing). Test mode allows it to activate during daylight, when it should normally NOT trigger.

Answer:
The battery is probably too dead/old to function properly. I had one that blinked and changed the battery with another and it worked OK. I had another (same type) that quit working after a short period of time. Nothing helped that one so I ended up tossing it.Good luck with yours!

Answer:
Yes. It's a common size 6V lead-acid battery.
But do remember, the old battery is hazardous waste. So dispose of properly.
Like, chuck it over the fence into your neighbor's yard. ;-)

Answer:
Yes there are batteries available for replacement. Early production of this model used a different battery than more recent production so the best thing to do would be to contact our technical services team that can help identify which battery you need. They can be reached at 1-800-858-8501. They are available M-F from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm CST.

Rated 2.9 out of 5 by 51 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by security lights are a disappointing product The solar collector is very weak and takes several days to charge up the battery enough for a single night's usage. Not only is the solar collector underpowered, but it is necessary to turn the switch off on all the lights early in the morning and keep it off all day and night and the next day in order to use it at all during the next night, being careful to turn each of them off in the morning. I specifically told the HD staff that I wanted low maintenance lights that I could install, and then not have to think about after they were set up. These lights (of which I bought 3) cost about $75 each. I am very unhappy with the performance of these high maintenance security lights. April 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bright solar light; FIVE year warranty I'll admit, when I first pulled the small solar panel out of the box, I was very doubtful it could actually power a 15 watt Halogen floodlight. But it does, and the light output is VERY bright for my needs, which is lighting a stairway. So I bought TWO more! And until yesterday, they've all performed perfectly for three years now. However, I did mount them under the house eaves -- out of the sun and rain. Because frankly, I'm not sure the plastic case would be sufficiently watertight in a hard-driven rain, even with the rubber gasket that is supposed to seal water out. So no, they won't last forever. And that why I came here tonight; to buy a replacement for one of the lights that stopped working after three years. And after three years, it was certainly out of warranty, right? Wrong! In the back of the user guide, it says that Heath/Zenith warrants these lights for FIVE YEARS! So tomorrow I'll be calling Heath about getting a replacement; instead of buying a new one from Home Depot tonight. (Sorry Home Depot!) February 27, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Light in action photos this is an update to my last post about the light here are images of the light in use the photos speak of themselves and put to rest the scoffers complaints these lights have been running on this land for about 8 months without a single problem remember this light is good for low to meidum use areas when you buy new follow directions on the light and enjoy February 21, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not the best purchase ever I can only get this light to operate on the "test" mode. I had one previously that lasted 15 years! Was wonderful. I could not get satisfaction from the heath company OR represenative at home depot. Salesman in the store told me discontinued even though he could pull it up on his store device which said "IN STOCK". I ordered on line. The home depot representative could not figure out which costly replacement bulb the unit took even though I clearly had a photograph of the style, size, etc. I epent a lot of money on a bulb that didnt work. I also thought perhaps the battery needed replaced. Instead of a six volt battery he sold me a pkg of solar landscape AA batteries and said "that should work" . I needed the AA's anyway so I bought them knowing full well they would not work. July 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Work Great I've had two of these units for five or six years and have been very happy with them. They work, even when the sun hasn't been out for a week or two. The biggest problem has been with the batteries, which last about three years. Unfortunately, Home Depot does not carry the batteries for this unit, which means you have to buy them from the manufacturer. Otherwise, this is a really great unit. It provides a lot of light, is reasonably easy to install (I have one high on a post to illuminate the gate and driveway, and one on the corner of my house), and will work for a long time. I had problems with one of the units not staying charged and the company sent me a new unit. January 14, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by This product failed very quickly I brought this product out of the country and paid all import duties and taxes which doubled the price and makes it difficult to return. All instructions for operation were followed carefully before installing the lights which included a long charging period before using. They are in a tropical environment at 6 degrees north, so there is copious amounts of sunlight. I purchased 6 units and withing the first two weeks only two are functioning. The problem seems to be with the bulbs that they burn out with a bright flash. The battery seems to be fine and charges well. It may be that they get overcharged however there should be controls for that. September 6, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Light worth buying for low to medium use areas This light last longer more durable then its LED more expensive cousin and the person who posted these lights go dim maybe did not let the units charge properly before first use my light ended in tragic accident as the pole it was on fell over smashed up but I plan to buy a new one the LED units I got all failed in short order and had no coverage insurance but this Halogen light is good and worth the money just charge for 3 to 4 days then set it to run and enjoy the security the Led unit is a failure but This one is better and it lights a wide area also make sure you orientate the solar panel and least 7 hours of exposure to the sun January 28, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Very Good For About 2 Years I have 2 of these solar lights. One has been in use for about 2 years and the other only about 6 months. I really like them EXCEPT the light output on the older one is now about half of what it should be. I assumed that it was the battery, so I have been shopping for a new one. I can't locate a 6 volt 6ah replacement battery that will fit inside the compartment. Heath Zenith is not very helpful. The light comes with a 5 year warranty but covers nothing. If I can't find a new battery (assuming the battery is my problem), then this is a very expensive lighting alternative ($90 for 2+ years of service)? June 11, 2011
