Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by aandersonelp So far unit works as advertised
Purchased this unit 12/14/13, Installed same day in approximately 30 minutes (wired installation). In the box this doorbell looks really nice, installed it's fairly cheap looking plastic, but still looked better than the doorbell I replaced. During my first test I did get the install cover message, reinstalled and have had no problems. (The cover key must fit directly into the base slot to press the cover button.) Attaching the diode was straight forward, easy and I was able to make it work with a 5/8 drilled hole. At a cost of 59 dollars plus 10 dollars for the ringer, I did expect a better quality product, more melody and ring selections, and a cover that looks a little better than cheap plastic.
I will keep this unit because it does work and its looks far better than what I had. With a little frosted glass transparent spray paint on the plastic cover you can do what Heath Zenith should of done in production.
Pros: Easy Installation, Adjustable Volume, Wireless Capability, Nice Design
Cons: Cover looks like cheap plastic, Cover must be removed to adjust the volume or change tones, Limited rings and melodies.

Extremely disappointing!! This product has never worked correctly. I've been working on houses for over 20 years, so it's not as if I haven't installed this kind of thing before. I bought the recommended wireless push buttons for it. It worked off and on for a few days, now nothing works. Maybe if your system is wired it will work ok, but if you're looking for a wireless setup, I wouldn't buy it. I'll be out purchasing yet another kind soon. What a colossal waste of money!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Tnscott Really poor product design
We inherited this doorbell when we bought a new house last year. All of the posted comments are spot on. When it did make a sound it was "install cover". No matter how many times I reseated the cover, I always got the same outcome. The culprit is a tiny black button that had to be depressed by a small plastic arm on the cover. The horrible design of the cover apparently never puts enough pressure on the button to fully depress it. We were ready to throw it in the garbage today and just get something else. So I dismantled the thing. There are just 4 screws on the back plastic cover. Once there, there is just one screw in the bottom left corner holding the circuit board on. Take that off, and tape the heck out of the little switch to keep it pressed in. Really stiff button, so it really does require some strategicly placed strong tape. Put it back together making sure the volume switch fits back in its hole before screwing the circuit board down. Now it finally works. But you shouldn't have to hack a commercially sold product with consistently poor reviews. Heath should be forced to pull these off the shelves and go back to the design drawing board.

Cheap construction, cover case never really fit. After a month or so, the chime malfunctioned.

Cover must be installed exactly correctly or chime wilt work. Position of cover is very finicky. It will work ok for a few days/weeks, then it will stop working. Why would anyone design a door chime that won't work unless the cover is installed? Also to change tune, you have to remove the cover.

As discovered by the previous consumers this product simply does not function properly. Waste of time, on the way to HD to return...should've checked the reviews first

It looks beautiful, but never really worked correctly. The inside mechanism kept sliding down so that the connection was lost. I kept taping and shimmying with blocks but it finally just died. I replaced the batteries, but it never came back on.
