Answer:
This will sense motion and turn the light on. When you leave the room, and it stops sensing motion, it begins a countdown to turn the light off. If you come back into the room and it senses your motion again, the light will stay on. Only after it stops sensing motion for a pre-selected timeframe, will it turn the light off.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Worked great the first year, less reliable now Used with 4 12 watt (4 foot) FL bulbs (in garage) and no flicker (probably because 48 watts is over the minimum load), LED bulb in socket (5th light in garage) will remain always lit but an incandescent will go off with FL bulbs. yes the box is BIG but you can cram the house wiring (use a screwdriver handle and fingers, as usual) and make it fit without using an adapter. no hum - ever. Not consistent at detecting motion after being a few years old and often stays on all night, I also have same switch in the hallway does not work well 3-way configuration despite following the instructions the lights only reliable come on after both detects motion but SOMETIMES when only 1 detects motion regardless of the settings used. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Useful item, but be ready for some issues This wall-switch motion sensor has behaved well for me, and it's certainly going to pay for itself quickly. But there was an issue, in that the size of the body of the thing is substantially larger than the typical single pole light switch. And, since our switch boxes were the very shallow ones, the result was that it wouldn't fit into the box on top of the supply wires. I had to get a 3/4 inch box extension and mount it inside that to get it mounted properly. That looks mildly odd, because it sticks out from the wall, but I didn't care about that, and it's a perfectly valid installation. So in the end it's working fine. August 25, 2011
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product. Works well. I bought this for our garage light. It fits well with the existing wall switch. Works well with incandescent bulb ONLY. NEVER use this with CFL bulbs due to flickering issue with the bulb and the switch itself humms, it's like flickering inside too as the CFL flickers. Motion detection is fair enough. Most of the time it detecs humans. It cannot detect our 7 pound puppy and 16 pound cat :) Sometimes it cannot detect our car entering the garage, but it activates once you open the car door. Light adustment sensitivity is ok. I waited for the sunset to optimize the adjustment which is just perfect. Time adjustment is good, it works as described. I adjusted it to 5 minutes only. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by not very good... This was installed perfectly easy by my husband...the fact that you can set the time for the light to stay on after not sensing any motion is very nice feature, so is the photocell adjustment...the drawback is that, it makes my light flicker when it turns off,I don't know if it's gonna consume more energy because of that, and I don't know what else to do with it to stop it, I just turn the auto motion sensing switch just to stop it from flickering...which defeats the very purpose I installed it i the first place,I plan on switching it with another type...we'll see if it will be better.. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by doesn't work with compact fluorescent light bulbs The unit was easy to install (requires a deeper than normal switch box). However it does not work with compact fluorescent light bulbs (they flicker, so I assume the switch does not completely cut off energy going to the load when under sensor control). I have had to put incandescent light bulbs in the light to prevent the flickering. It is interesting that in 'off' mode, the switch does turn off the light completely, but not when turning off in 'sensor' mode. Puzzling, since the product is in theory supposed to save energy, by turning lights on and off automatically, negating the need to leave the lights on. And then it doesn't work with CFLs. So this switch is of limited use. Why not simply make the switch completely cut power to the load when in sensor mode? I cannot find such a product, even though there have been outdoor sensor lights available for years that work fine with CFL-based floodlights. July 29, 2011
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Do not buy Poor quality, settings are for either light or dark conditions, I want it to come on whenever it senses motion. Does not work with fluorescent bulbs. Very hard to install. February 17, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by OK, but humming and flickering, even though is support CFLs slackerprime pointed out that you should not use CFLs unless it states that it supports CFLs. The description here shows that it does, yet I also have the flickering and humming problem. Other than that, it's OK, with weak motion detection April 17, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install This product works perfectly in the rooms were I installed them. And it was esy to install. It was good to find that there are ajustments for the time that the light stays on, and also for the level of light in the room. It can be set so that it will only go on when it is dark.
