Answer:
You can select the output from this transformer (8VAC-10VA, 16VAC-10VA or 24VAC-20VA) so it depends on the requirements of your HVAC unit. I suggest calling our tech service team at 1-800-858-8501 to talk through this specific application.

I have a 27 yr old ding-dong style door bell unit and the transformer is shot. Will this transformer work with it and will it be able to chime instead of ding-donging ? Or will I have to buy a whole new unit to make it chime ?

Answer:
The transformer you purchased will not power two door chimes. One chime requires a 16VAC, 10 watt transformer. Each additional chime will require the transformer wattage be increased by 5 watts. For example, two chimes require a 16VAC, 15 watt transformer. The chimes you install must also be the same type. Electronic (8 Note Melody through a speaker) and Mechanical (2-Note tone bar) chimes will not work Read More

I had the first generation ring doorbell that ran on a 12 vac transformer, but when i upgraded to the ring pro, i found out that my current transformer was not able to supply the required power. I never bought nor installed a low voltage transformer before, so I figured it would not only be hard, but an expensive task. I have to say that it was neither as i purchased this and installed it within 10 minutes of arrival. What I really like about this transformer is that i gives you three different power options. For lower power requirements, you can set it at 8vac and go up to 16 to 24 vac like the ring pro needs. Once i found my transformer, (in the basement connected to my smoke alarm) i unhooked the old one and simply wired in this one. Anyone with a but of diy knowledge can do this, so no need to hire an expensive electrician. Just look up some youtube videos. As soon as i hooked it up, and turned the breaker back on, my ring finally powered up and started operating perfectly. I am extremely happy that i found this at such a good price, and how easy it was to install. 100% recommend!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Audible Hum Put it in my wall and then found out it had an audible hum to it. I'm going to trash it. Otherwise, it worked fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good if you know where to put it. Absolutely a perfect replacement product for many types of doorbells and hvac equipment. Often times magnetic transformers have a little hum, knowing this I placed the junction box on a block wall located under my house and pulled power from the porcelain task lighting, it works perfectly and no hum unless your hanging out in the crawl - who does that?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not mount securely This transformer uses a quick-mount set screw rather than a lock nut. As a result, it did not mount securely in a 1/2" knockout in a steel 4" box, 2 1/8" deep. In a standard 4" box that is 1.5" deep, it wasn't much better. I will try to return the opened package and will look for one with a lock nut.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from what is that sound? Bought at a local Home depot store. Was not sure about wireless doorbells due to lots of other wireless doorbells in the area. Went wired. Installation was fine, but.....what.....I can hear.....something.....is that a .....an audible HUM in the hallway where I installed it. Nothing I could do about it. I guess I can just hum a new tune each day.... :(

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best solution when your transformer burns out works well, easy install, don't get confused between the 24,16 and 8V. This also works well as replacement for HVAC 110-24V transformer
