Customer Questions & Answers

What is the diameter?

I am making a mine turtle, so I would like to know what the diameter of this button is.
Asked by: Mason
The body of the button fits into a 5/8" inch hole. The face, which precludes it from falling into the hole and keeps the front of the button just proud of the hole, is 0.83" in diameter (a smidge larger than 13/16").

can this doorbell button (sku775681) be used on it's own or is it to be placed inside a larger button casing?

I want to know if this low profile doorbell button (sku 775681) will work on its own or if this is just the replacement button for inside a larger doorbell button (such as sku 697223). Thank you.
Asked by: Anonymous
It is placed inside a larger doorbell button holder. It is an actual replacement button. I cannot be used on its own.

Is it normal for the light to burn out in 2-3 months?

I wanted to know if it is normal for this light to burn out in 2-3 months or less? I have gone through 3 of these already. The push button is easy to install but does not seem to last long.
Asked by: NotTooHandyMan

What 'putty' can be used to hold this doorbell in place?

The molding next to my door is heavily ridged - not flat. I was planning on carving, staining and sealing a piece of carved basswood to use as a doorbell plate. The back would be carved to match the contour of the ridged molding. My plan was to drill a 5/8" hole in the carved wooden plate and put this doorbell in it. As the wood may expand and shrink a little bit, what putty, caulk, etc do you recommend to hold it in the piece? I'd prefer something that would give it more of a friction grip rather than glue in case I need to replace it in a few years. Thanks!

It would probably be easier to purchase a bell button complete with an ornamental escutcheon:To wit- one attached with 2 screws. The bulb which provides the "lighted button" will either [1] Eventually burn a hole in the center of the button or [2] Soon burn out from the (usual) 16VAC from the transformer. You might find it wise to mount it in a manner to previde easy replacement. . I converted my door bell to12V DC and changed the bulb to an LED with a 1K Ohm resistor. That addressed the foregoing problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fix it yourself! The push-button part of my $20 doorbell broke. The doorbell did not come from Home Depot, by the way. So, hop on down to the HD and grab this little guy for tree-fiddy. Pop out the broke button, throw in the new one, and what does a player hear? Ding-dong, bro. Beats shelling out another Jackson. Props to H to da D!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Staw away The button would not stay in the doorbell button gang plate. The flimsy metals tabs do not provide enough tension to prevent it from popping out of the plate.
