Not this one if you mean to add to an existing three way system. But I have seen units designed for that.

Short answer, NO. The add-on switch comes with two components, one piece replaces the single pole switch, the other mounts where you have decided you need it to be. The two components inter-act with one another. I hope this helps someone to better understand. Sorry its in layman's terms, but its all I have. Mine works great.Popps

While this unit uses 5 different codes I don't think they are user setable. Other similar units are availabe with user set codes whick will let you have 5 separate circuits or 5 controllers on one.

The switches say they operate on different channels, but come preset with noway to change. There is a letter on the package designating the channel it is set for. If you can get the switches with different letters it should work

This product has a set frequency, so the channels can't be changed. This model will not be the best product for your intended application. Heath Zenith has another model, WC-6003-WH that you could ask to have special ordered from this retailer.

Answer:
Wireless RF transmissions will travel through standard walls, but metal and other objects will create barriers to the transmission. Without knowing what is behind the walls and what, if anything, is on the walls between the add a switch and the wired wall switch, I assume this will work for the application you want to use it for.

Will this product work with Fluorescent lights. I want to use it for a bedroom but the bedroom lights are fluorescent. Besides, in a few years (maybe sooner) you won't even be able to buy incandescent bulbs.

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 84 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works, but installation was a problem The item comes with two wires sticking out of it, instead of the usual screws to attach the wires from the wall. The switch that goes into the wall is very deep, so if the hole in the wall has large wires in it or doesn't have room, the switch will stick out beyond the wall. I had to cut down the wires to make room, but the finishing plate is still 1/4 inch off the wall. Speaking of the finishing plate, the holes that the screws go into are plastic and not threaded, so the screw has to be forced in. Unfortunately, the screws are made of soft metal and one of them broke as I screwed it in. Now the face plate only has one screw on it and the other hole has a broken screw inside that cannot be removed. I used double sided tape to keep the top of the face plate on. It looks horrible, since it's already sticking out from the wall because of the size of the unit. The remote switch requires a 9V battery, which is not made clear on the package (one of the bullet points in the back); this should be highlighted since it's so important. For the price, they could include a battery. The remote switch is fine and didn't need anything special, other than the battery (installed by removing the face place, not the back). February 10, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Really made a difference Moderately easy to install. Biggest problem was location of transmitter switch being effective. We had a bird cage located about 12-15 inches away from the receiver switch, so line of sight was interfered with. So, the transmitter switch got moved about 15 inches from where I originally installed it, and it worked fine. It would be nice if there was some sort of double sided sticky tape to temporarily hold the transmitter to find proper location. It's a pain to drill the holes and mount the switch, only to find out it wasn't effective. So far, it has been a great addition to getting at a switch that's at the back of the house -- from the front door! December 11, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by NOT FOR LED ! Overall an easy install and decent product but when it says for incandecent lights it means ONLY incandecent lights. This switch goes bad when using all LED's. It will work fine for a while but then something in the switch burns out. First you may notice that the lights don't fully go out when switched off and then they simply won't turn on. At that point if you manually turn them on, whatever has gone bad in the switch prevents the lights from turning off. I am ordering a new switch and will only use incandecent lights on that circut. And yes, I did check the battery on the transmitter. This has all been confirmed by an electrician. May 15, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does What I Need It To Do Purchased two of these and installed them in two separate locations. My use case is about 30' from remote to switch. Works great at that distance. I tested it 50' away through drywall and it did not work reliably. A word of caution: If you think they will automatically send you two units that operate on separate channels, you are mistaken. Both units I received are channel D, which means had I installed them in close proximity they would have interfered with one another. I would have liked to see separate part numbers for the two channel options so that I could order another for close proximity use. December 9, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 18 Years of Good We bought this product 18 years ago because the light switch for our master bathroom was outside the room. Turning on the light would shine it in my wife's face... not a nice thing early in the morning. The device saved me from running wire through the wall and attic. The wall mounted switch is a transmitter, so it does not have to be completely "flipped" to turn the light on or off. It works with a 9 volt battery which needs to be replaced when you notice the remote switch is not very responsive. The switch part has finally gotten somewhat stuck, so we have ordered another one. I hope after all these years, it's still as good as in 1993. November 13, 2011
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by No CFL's The switch was easy to install and the range seems fine. I don't understand the complaints abut the lack of battery or switch cover. Have these people never bought any toys? The description clearly states battery required, not included. I can however attest to the fact that this switch hates ANY fluorescent lights, and that includes CFL's. The switch will buzz mercilessly and will not turn the lights completely off if you try to use it with CFL bulbs in the light fixtures. I am being forced to change to LED bulbs, because there is no way I am reverting to incandescent bulbs. I hope the LED's will not be a problem. If so, I will update this review. July 3, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by works like it should, just need color variations as an elect i like to try new things and this was one, for a quick easy no hassle way of installing a 3-way. mine was for unfinished basement stairway. as stated in specs this is for incandecent bulbs only, well i put a series of plugs in basement rafters and hung shop lights that plug in and put on reg switch at bottom of stairs. it worked. so it will work with flourescents in this way, and still have an easy change out for shop lights. and if u forget to turn lights outs, no more running down and up the steps. also my run consist of 5 2-bulb shop lights, care should be taken in how many are hooked up not to exceed wattage max. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Remote Switch The instructions don't give this switch justice. There are several complaints in reviews that says this relay is very restricted in function based on distance and walls/structure. However, a look at the face of the relay itself will show a black wire set into a channel that is the antenna. The performance of this relay improves considerably if you simply pull the black antenna wire out of the channel it is in and straighten it out below the relay. Too bad the instructions don't suggest this! March 6, 2015
