It has a great Volume control, which helps me, because I have a severe hearing problem. It would depend on the size of your home and the location of the basement.

This model comes with one door chime and one push button. You will need to purchase another Heath/Zenith wireless push button if you would like to be notified from the front and back doors. The door chime will play a different tune for each of the push buttons. There are instructions in the package on how to set a push button to play the back door tune.

Transformer is not needed. We found the distance between bell and chime was affected by the metal door we had to place the bell on. Works at 5' but unreliable at 10'. It is self contained.

There is a back piece that separates and opens up in order to put in batteries.
Follow the link below to the website with the instruction manual that shows how the doorbell separates in order to put in the batteries.

Wireless Battery Operated Door Chime is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well for my needs I installed this because it was very hard to run a hardwire installation. It works just fine and it has the added bonus of playing a variety of bits of tunes which are changeable. So you can change anytime you want, even seasonally for holidays. The only problem that I did have is that since it was in an area that is quite humid, the batteries did leak, so you do need to check on the batteries from time to time.

I had to leave it behind when I moved so I would just get the same unit since I like it so much. Current house also has a hard wired door bell so this one will go with me when I move again!

Aside from the horrible digital door chime sound, the door bell would only ring every 4th or 5th push of the bell. The style was nice but it didn't make sense to keep a doorbell that doesn't ring every time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! This is the best door chime ever. This is the second home on which we've installed this chime. Easy to change melodies and a wonderfully large selection. Such fun to have the variety. Usually have the Marine Hymn as my husband is saluting his Corps.
