The other day I bought the InTune MP3 Door Chime from Home Depot for $49.99.

The other day I bought the InTune MP3 Door Chime from Home Depot for $49.99.
The biggest disappointment is the inconsistent range. Sometimes I can bee within 6 feet of the chime without obstacles, and the button does not trigger the chimes. Then a test with the button outside and the chime inside - it does trigger the chime - most times, but not all. I also don't want the chime box to hang where it seemingly needs to be. The point of being wireless is that I should be able to hang it anywhere within range. Range is NOT 100'.
I've read from comments here that this could be a problem with the battery but I am using brand new Duracell batteries in the chime. I have no idea where I'd find the battery found in the button.
I like the flexibility of being able to load any MP3. Where can I get a battery for the wireless button? Can I program a second button to this chime?
Next disappointment was when I found out the $25 SkinIt coupon expired in January 2014. It is November 2015! There was no way to read the offer's expiration until after I opened it.

That distance would be for direct line of sight. Any walls, studs, turns, or any situation where the signal is blocked by any obstacle will drastically effect the range.

They don't list the range because it doesn't work when any further away than a couple of feet. And then, all you get is an occasional static crackle. Most of the time, nothing. At least, that was our experience with it. Seriously, I would get something else.

I have been experimenting with this one and found it to have extremely poor range. I have found the range to be approximately 40 feet indoors. Once an exterior wall is placed in the way, the range is reduced to about 5 inches. I would advise staying away from this product.

Might want to check your battery. Also depending on th material between the button and the bell maybe interfering with the radio signal. I found that certain car alarm systems may interfere with the communication and you may want to try a different code for both devices and not use the factory default.

Batteries do effect the potential for range. Also, make sure you aren't trying to transmit the signal through walls or corners. I recommend having this unit in the line of sight of the door.

Good luck getting it to work any further away from the button than that. We had this chime for a day & took it back because it didn't work. Range was zero, wouldn't work with the volume level up & even than, would only "chime" with a static crackle... sometimes. Take it back & get something else.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Okay if you want 1 that doesn't work properly. Purchased this doorbell/chime. The best thing about it is that you can yse any mp3 chime you want. But in my opinion it is junk. Since we have had it (going on 2yrs or so now), the button has to be pressed just right or will not work. The battery in remote takes a while to run down, and the ones in the base will stop working and you have no idea they are dead. September 9, 2016

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pretty neat fun easy to install nice looking This is pretty neat as you can preload any mp3 file you want. Can change the door chime to play holiday music for any occasion. The best part is you can load your favorite teams fight songs to play on game day . The cover is white but paintable or you can just print a theme on your printer then use double sided tape to hold it to the cover. Not much information in the box about how to do this so it is trial & error. I have a friend with a sign shop so I will have him print themes on decals for me. Completely wireless so very easy to install just load your music install batteries and your ready to go. September 28, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Unique Door Chime for the Modern Home Heath Zenith has created a genius way to enjoy the announcement that someone is at your door! Forget the standard "Ding-Dong" chime! You can now use whatever song you want! Take any MP3 song that you want and drag it onto the door chime via UPS cord (Supplied) and that's it! Throw in 3 "C" batteries and screw the bracket to your wall. The wireless transmitter (door bell button) has double sided tape. I recommend that you use a program like Gold Wave to trim your favorite song so that you don't have to listen to the entire song when the button is pressed. There is no way to cut it off or cut it short. The housing is built very well. It's nice and solid. The chime has 3 loudness settings. Even on the loudest setting, the speaker doesn't distort. It's a quality piece. Easy to setup. Easy to program. The range isn't very good when trying to mount it behind a wall. It really does need line of sight. I tried to install this in my lower level of my home (it's a split level) and I didn't have any luck. I had to mount it on the inside wall, behind my door. Overall, I recommend this MP3 programmable door chime over any standard bell any day! Get creative! March 2, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Innovative idea. Easy to set up. This product is intriguing in that you get ultimate control over what your doorbell sounds like, whether you want a particular chime or a song melody. The storage space on the doorbell's hard drive is ample enough that you can change through different sounds whenever you'd like. I have about 20 custom song bits on there now (grew tired adding more); it's easy to cycle through the songs with a button push. Volume can also be adjusted. The main drawback is an extremely short range of wireless connectivity. I could only get the button to set off the doorbell from within about 10 feet. So forget about any other creative options. I wanted to place the button at the bottom of our front stairs with the chime inside but instead set it up for the back door due to the limited range. Adding the mp3s is easy. The strange thing is the manual tells you to refer to their website for mp3 editing. The website simply says to find a free mp3 editor online. It recommends using a song length less than 20 seconds. The Skin It idea is interesting and there are tons available scaled for this particular item. It would be nice if a code was included for one or two free skins though. Mounting the hardware is also easy and like any other wireless doorbell. Customization/creativity: 4 stars. Functionality (limited range): 2 stars October 1, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Short Range For A Wireless Doorbell First off, this unit has an extremely short range. Our home is traditional stick frame and doesn't have stucco, brick or rock cladding. The instructions only tell you to place the unit where you want it temporarily and test it. Good idea, but I could only get 12' between the doorbell push button and the chime unit. I was hoping to get about 20' so I could place the chime in the hallway so we could hear it in most of the rooms in the house. This is not a unit for a larger home since the range is so limited. After all, if someone is at the door you want to be able to hear the chime, thats the reason to have a doorbell installed! Also the battery in the doorbell push button takes a very small 12 volt battery, an A23 (See Photo). Its not expensive but I had hoped it would take something more along the lines of a standard 9 volt. Just another battery that needs to be part of the home maintenance kit. One other shortcoming, you need to have a computer and internet access to change chime tones and get a copy of the instructions. I know that most have access to a computer and the internet but what happens if your in an area where these are not readily available? Who wants to get all the tools ready, get a ladder out and then find upon opening the package you need to stop, fire up the computer and printer to get the instructions. I have seen other companies doing this same thing and its a hassle to say the least, other, more descriptive words come to mind! So, overall I would recommend a pass on this unit. Not just because of its VERY short range but because its a hassle to install, maintain and the company can't be bothered to give you a set of printed instructions for buying their product. PASS ON THIS ITEM, SAVE YOUR MONEY AND THE HEADACHES! September 2, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Barely works... I placed it at different places from yards 10 away to 10 inches away from the sending unit. It rarely activates from the sending unit. It also rarely activates from the test button. The sending unit doesn't work through a single wall and only works while in the same room with no obstacles from the receiver to the sender and only within 5 feet away. December 12, 2015
