Customer Questions & Answers

I'm told there is a "remote" door bell that plugs into any wall outlet and receives the ringing of the front door bellI. Is that true.

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, there is a remote doorbell - you can but this unit with one or two or zero buttons. Be sure to buy a unit that comes with at least one button as these don't have the necessary "jumpers" to change the frequency to marry up button with doorbell.

Can I use a second chime with it?

I want to have the chime ring inside my home and in my outdoor living area. Is it possible to use one button and 2 chime devices?
Asked by: Zippy
I don't think so. We were unable to pair it with another doorbell button as there are no jumpers in the unit, so I don't think you will be able to pair it with anything else.

how do i change the song OR CHIME?

Asked by: Anonymous
To change the chime, you will need both the Door Bell unit and the Chime unit. Remove the Door Bell unit so you can access the inside for the back. Unplug the Chime unit and turn it over. At the bottom of the back of the Chime unit, there is a small flip door that is secured by one screw. Remove that screw and flip open the door. The sound the door bell makes depends on having a jumper (that little black cap that fits over the prongs) on location 8 (the location furthest to the right). To hear a single Ding, place a jumper on location 8 in the Door Bell unit. Do not place a jumper on location 8 in the Chime unit. To hear Ding-Dong, do NOT place a jumper on location 8 in the Door Bell unit and the Chime unit. That is, both location 8s will NOT have jumper. To hear the eight note "Westminster" tune, place a jumper on location 8 in the Chime unit, with no jumper on location 8 in the Door Bell unit. Do not remove jumpers from locations 1 through 7, which are used to have the Door Bell unit "talk" to the Chime unit. Hope that helps

Is it weather proof [the outside buzzer] and can you screw it into the side entrance wall.

Asked by: phillip
The wireless push button that goes outside is weather resistant and is made to be placed outside. It can be mounted by double-sided tape or screws (all included with the kit).

Wireless Plug-In Door Chime Kit is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big Ben Bell Works like a charm. I had bought a similar model 10-15 years ago and the battery in the bell button had deteriorated. Could not buy a single bell, so I bought the whole works again. Mine had a relay to my office and I was wondering if the bell would ring there again. It DID! Finally, my friend who did all the work had it all figured out. After 2 hours. We had to move the CO monitor to a different location so the new unit could better penetrate the walls to the extended location. Trial and error, but we succeeded in the end. Everything is as it was before. Even the old chime is still working, with new batteries for the relay. Wireless electronics can be beaten!! By mere amateurs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from RTFM - Design Has Been Changed/Improved I might be wrong, but it seems to me that SL-6166-C has been changed in-store to SL-7366 (not online yet) but images, descriptions and price match up. The technology has changed thusly: Tone selection - Old: Jumper, New: Dip Switches Push button pairing - Old: Jumpers, New: Within 20 seconds of plugging in chime, press and hold push button until chime sounds - this can be done to pair a number of pushbuttons. There is a procedure to erase all pairing. Battery - Old: 12v 23A, New: CR2032 button battery (CR2025 also fits and works) I've compared both in real world and the new model's range and sound quality/volume are superior. Also pairing is simpler because there is no need to touch jumpers nor dip switches which require removing screw from chime and using needle-nose pliers or tweezers, and opening up push button - dip switches are only for tone selection, not for pairing. Also, instructions are clear and simple, but you have read them ;-) There's a review by MilitarySpouse fromAlexandria, VA which incorrectly says there is no way to pair additional buttons. My guess is that either they did not read the manual, or referred to instructions for an older/different model.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Fine Door bell is about 12 feet from the chime unit. Button needs to be pressed firmly to activate, but it works. Was getting some "false" rings, so just revised the ring codes. Not difficult, but the pieces that need to be moved are small; suggest needle nose pliers to help. Chime unit is located in a central entryway and is loud enough to be heard in upstairs and downstairs. So, other than a few false rings (which hopefully the changing of the code will fix), we are very happy with the unit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great. Very simple to install. Changing the security code may be difficult for those with poor eyesight or little patience; small components.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hey, it WORKS! Bought a doorbell extension. Didn't work. Sent it back and bought this one. It replaces (or augments-depending on the person ringing) the original and can be plugged in wherever you want it to ring. The only problem now is getting people to push this button, instead of the one on the wall (which has tape over it with an arrow pointing to the new button). Sigh. Still.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This product serves its purpose The product is good but the volume is loud. There is an adjuster but even the lowest volume is still too loud. The only improvement I would have is to have the manufacturer adjust this. Otherwise, the product is good and it serves its purpose. Thanks

Rated 1 out of 5 by from One word... ...terrible. The thing only work when I have the button in my hand and I am standing right next to it. If I walk more than 5 feet away, forget it. Doesn't work.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great sound but will not adapt to other wireless doorbells as advertised The sound of the Westminster chime is terrific but the unit does not function as advertised. We wanted to pair up a different doorbell button onto this unit and the packaging advertises it can be expanded to more buttons. BUT, there are no jumpers inside the main unit so that the frequency can be changed or matched to another button. So crazy! We took it back and got a different unit, the stand alone doorbell to be paired with a wireless button to be purchased separately. Again, no jumpers so there is no way at all to pair this with any button! Back to store we must go again. Guess the only way to make this work is to buy a unit that comes with one or two buttons and forget about pairing anything else with it, unless you can find an older version that is still made with the jumpers. Good luck.
