Answer:
Mine has an auto ignitor. As you turn the knob on, you will hear a snap, and that is the ingnitor creating the spark which ignites the propane. Although, after a few years of use, my ignitor has stopped working. Now I need to find a replacement.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 65 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Better than expected I was looking for a fire pit that did not have the typical issues with the countertop around it falling appart. This one works nicely and though it takes more work to hide the hose and LPG tank, it produces a nice flame and puts out a fair amount of heat. July 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great fire pit Easy to use and store. We bought this one as a gift after buying one for ourselves. Love it! July 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great item very useful . Great item and very useful. Wish I would have ordered this item in the early fall. It probably won't get used was much since its quite warm at night presently, I didn't realize it didn't come with the lid so I haze to order it later aafter receiving product, it might be listed as must order lid separetly. Since there was free shipping it was not an inconveince, May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product. Very happy with gas fire pit. Puts out a good amount of heat and no smoke. April 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing! Bought this online about 2 weeks ago and can't get enough of it! I wanted something I could light in the evenings after work... lighting a wood fire required time and effort I didn't have. I keep this on my covered porch and light it almost every night. It doesn't heat up the wood underneath, and the flames are very well contained. I even used it for my son's "campfire" birthday party for roasting marshmallows. Very portable (easily moved around- you can even scoot it with your foot when lit... carefully). Amazing little fire pit- looks better in person. I may make a permanent stone enclosure for it eventually, but for now, I'm happy to move it around my porch. October 2, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product for the money I purchased this fire bowl about a month ago and we use it almost nightly. I have burned through four 20lb tanks of propane already and I consistently get 7-9 hours of heat and ambiance per tank. The lava rocks do get some soot on them after some use, but I don't notice at all when the fire is lit. December 11, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great addition to my deck! Easy to assemble and use. I light it on cool mornings and enjoy drinking coffee on my deck. It is warm and cozy and the best part - it is smoke free! It is also great for toasting marshmallows. We have a Trex deck and there is no heat transfer from below the fire bowl at all. We really enjoy it! July 27, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Extremely good at its pricepoint With the dry winter we had here in Southern California the fire restrictions have been upped to record levels and just before our annual camping trip we learned that camp fires have been forbidden. However, propane fire pits are still allowed (propane devices with on/off switches) and I quickly ordered this pit and paid an extra $20 for expedited shipping. It arrived in only 3 days and worked perfectly right out of the box. Construction is sturdy and the pit came with an extra bag of decorative rocks. Average usage over the 6 day trip was 5-6hrs per night and we used approx 2/3 of a 20lb tank each night (manuf booklet states 7-10 hrs, which seems about right). The amount of heat was good enough for 6-10 people to sit around and feel comfortable while roasting marshmallows (lows in the 50's). Great portable pit and quite a few friends on the trip asked for details so they could buy one when they got home. August 13, 2013
