Product Overview

Henry 201 fibered black roof coating is a premium cold-applied, brush or spray-grade asphalt coating in a solvent system. It is a penetrating type protective coating formulated to provide a tough, durable, weather-resistant film to protect existing roofs in good condition. The solvent system allows working at lower temperatures than with asphalt emulsions, and the coating won't wash off if unexpected drizzle occurs before curing.

Customer Questions & Answers

Will this product resurface a vintage home's metal roof over the porch?

We are restoring a mid-1850's house and have to address the flaking coating on the metal roof over the porch. If we wire brush the loose flaking coating off, will this be the right product to coat the roof and have it look good (black surface)? If so, other than wire brushing the surface, what else do we need to do to prepare the surface?
Asked by: VintageMI
VintageMI, it appears that you never received an answer to this question. I can tell you that I have used this product on a metal porch roof of a 1905 Victorian, and have had good results.

Why did my roof leak after applying Henry 201 asphalt coat to a new exterior plywood flat roof ?

I am very displeased with this product. I read all of the fine print (fine print on the can is too small to read by the way!) at The Home Depot and chose 201 to be the best choice. Did the 201 get absorbed into the plywood negating the seal? Should the plywood have been sealed prior? If so with what? Again, not happy and want answers soon. I do not know what other products I can use next to seal this roof whether I use Henry products or not. I just want this roof done and I'm stopped dead in my tracks! The rain is coming so answers please.

what is the diffrence betwenn fibered asphalt and the regular roof repair

Asked by: cagney
The Henry 201 Fibered Asphalt is typically used to coat the entire roof or a good portion of the roof. I'm assuming you mean our Henry 208, 208R, or 209 for the regular roof repair. These products are usually used on areas where the leak is at, such as seams, vents, etc. These are also thicker grades of products. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well once applied It was very messy to apply and remained sticky for two full days. Once it dried however, it was very consistent and the fibers bonded together to create a solid surface. It is a chore getting it applied, but I did it in damp, 60 degree weather. It is an easy way to prolong the life of your flat roof.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Coated My House Addition I bought a house that had a flat roof addition. This area had a flat granulated surface that was discolored, cracking, and wearing down. I didn't need any energy saving benefits, so I went with this black option. It coated easily with a brush and filled the pinhole cracks well

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome!! It was relatively easy to handle and I am a 48 yr old female. It was very easy to pour into a smaller bucket I could carry. I ordered it online so UPS could deliver the 5 gallon can on my porch.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Quick fix for a flat roof Henry's fibered roof cement applies easily with a brush and covers well. The product has a relatively short life compared to other types of roofing but can be quickly applied

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This product works well but there is no way to make sure it has reached the end of its shelf life and starts to thickens so much you cannot spread it Easy to transport a little heavy but using a rope to pull up two and three story buildings makes it much easier. Transporting the product upside down allows for the contents to mix better before application.
