Customer Questions & Answers

is this product suitable for installation in a bathroom?

2nd floor replace current vinyl
Asked by: ernurse95
Absolutely not, will self destruct. I have gotten away with solid glue down cork in the bath if you are careful to not let water sit on it. I love cork and have been using it for close to 20 years now. I will no longer use "engineered plank" garbage core (particle board, HDF, MDF) for anything. Even 5 coats of Traffic floor finish will not keep water out of the core; if water sits on it, say bye bye to your floor. Do yourself a favor and learn how to glue down the solid cork 12x12 tiles.

Do I need underlayment or vapor barrier over osb or particle board subfloor

I will be installing this product over particle board and osb subfloors, will an underlayment or vapor barrier be necessary?
Asked by: Tyson
I was wondering the same thing and found these instructions on the website... it looks like all their cork and wood flooring can be installed without any underlayment or vapor barrier unless you are installing below grade on concrete. I plan on securing my existing older linoleum, removing any loose pieces, and installing the floor right over since it is floating. If I finish before you buy, I'll make sure to add more feedback! http://www.heritagemillfloors.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Heritage-Mill-Click-Instructions-O2015-9792.pdf

Would this product be appropriate for a kitchen and utility room? How durable is the product against scratches?

Asked by: cmoore68
I grew up in a home that was built in 1940 and the kitchen / dinning room 20 x 30 was all entirely CORK and so beautiful. Dad once buffed it out and it just glowed.

Bronzed Fossil Plank 13/32 in. Thick x 11-5/8 in. Wide x 36 in. Length Cork Flooring (22.99 sq. ft. / case) is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 56.

Almost every plank had damage on the connecting tabs and a large number of the planks had damage to the cork top. The damage was done at the factory as the shipping cartons showed no damage. I tried to work around the damage to the connecting tabs on the planks with good surface, but it was slow going and difficult to get many to click together. About one third of the planks were unusable. I pointed out the problems at the store and ordered more to finish the job. These came with good tabs, but some had flaws in the cork on top. The added time waiting for the second batch seriously delayed completion of the remodel as the floor needed to be done before other parts of the remodel could be started. Next time I will pay a little more and get a solid wood core which, hopefully, doesn't damage so easily and I won't buy anything from Heritage Mill again.

We love it! Have not had any problems. We take necessary precautions when moving moving furniture. I walk on it with heels, not stilettos. My dog walks on it and he hasn't scratched it with his nails. We had some leftover and we put it our kids bathroom(teens). So far no issues with water. Easy to clean with dust mop or sponge mop. Would do it it to my whole house!

It needs to be at an angle in order to click it into place which means we had to lift each entire row of flooring and lift it and click it into place at the same time. We were very close to boxing it all back up and taking it back to home depot. But after a long hard effort we got it installed. Hopefully it lasts a while. It definitely doesn't seem super durable. The only reason we didn't take it back is because it will be super easy to uninstall if/when we need to replace it and it is so cheap. We were so sick of the icky sub floor that we just wanted the project done. Hopefully we don't regret our decision later.

It's pretty when down but there are places along the edge that are eaten up that we will have to figure out how to patch. All in all not a great product.

The photo online is NOT CLOSE to the actual product, which matches the sample in the store, so I'm glad I checked. It's very comfortable walking on it. We love the look. The finish marks easily just sliding a medium weight piece of furniture (empty corner hutch) which has nylon glides. It wrinkled the clear finish. We added felt pads to every piece of furniture. Installation is certainly not click and lock. A lot of time was lost due to the cheap paper laminate core, delaminating during the installation of the adjacent piece, causing it to flake and leave pieces under the installed piece. You have to slide out the new piece, lift the floor edge slightly, clean out the paper and try again. Worse, is that there are numerous places where the pieces refused to lie flat along the entire seam. There's a slight edge raised which can easily be caught by shoes or furniture and tear the surface. No amount of beating with a white mallet will lock it down flush. The hardwood transition pieces are outrageously expensive. We bought bamboo here online for $5 versus $45-55 for "macadamia" colored. We're very concerned about this issue and wonder about long term durability. Also, don't ever let it get wet! The paper laminate core would probably swell like a sponge. This product might be great with a plywood or pressboard (masonite) core, but not the paper core. We love the look, feel and quietness. Not sure that a few thousand dollars in flooring will last. Wait and see.

When some planks became water damaged in 2017, I had returned to Home Depot to request an additional couple of cases. However, they advised that they no longer could get the "dye lot" that I had previously, even after calling the vendor (I cannot verify they actually called). The new plank has a yellow tint compared to the old plank that has a red tint. I am super disappointed, as I only have two options (1) rip out all old plank and re-do the whole entire floor, which is very time consuming and expensive, (2) live with the extreme difference in color lots and simply be embarrassed by the product I chose to install. I chose to live with it due to cost, but I'd never buy it again. Anyone who sees it says they would never buy it either since the manufacturer has no consistency in the plank.

Due to it being softer than wood I am putting pads, felt, or coasters cut from remnant planks under heavier furniture, desks, etc. It may not be necessary but makes me feel better. This is in my home office, so I also obtained a bamboo chair mat to use under my desk chair. The flooring looks very good with the oak trim in the room.
