Product Overview

Cork flooring combines the beauty of a natural and truly renewable material with the comfort of a cushioned, warm and silent surface. It is highly sustainable since the cork oak trees are not cut. Only the outer bark is harvested, and it will grow again each 9 years. The new narrow and beveled plank format creates a more appealing and elegant look than traditional cork floors that are made in large panels. Cork flooring is warm underfoot, comfortable and soft to walk on, anti-microbial, fire and moisture resistant and provides unrivalled noise reduction properties. Installation is made easy with the precision milled glueless locking system. This floor features an integrated underlayment made out of cork. Prefinished cork requires no additional sealing after installation. Easy maintenance; simply vacuum. Warm to the touch and resilient, cork floors are a great addition to your home. Ideal for all levels of installation. This floor qualifies for 4 LEED points: (1) EQ4.3 (Indoor Environmental Quality)-Low Emitting, (2) MR4.1 (Materials & Resources)-Recycled Content, (3) MR 6-Rapidly Renewable Materials, (4) ID 1-Innovation in Design.

I plan to replace family room carpet with this cork flooring.
Currently pad and carpet over slab, no vapor barrier.
No issues with moisture, floor is fine.
Do I really need vapor barrier as recommended under this flooring?

Answer:
Yes, a minimum 6 milimeter polyethylene sheeting is required under all floors being installed over concrete slabs. Carpet/pad will let vapor pass through freely; hardwood and cork floors will hold moisture eminating from the slab, resulting in swelling, buckling, etc. Failure to install a proper vapor barrier will void warranty coverage on the product.

Answer:
The vapor barrier I used also had some felt to cushion and even out the surface. I wouldn't skip that step. The cork and its substrate are more susceptible to traces of moisture over time, so it would take far less than standing water to affect it.

Most often it is best, however, I have used 15# roofing paper many times as a underfloor vapor barrier
over the years and have never had problems with it.

Would cork flooring be used under heavy kitchen appliances?

Would the cork flooring be used under heavy kitchen appliances? Would the cork be crushed under the pressure or risk tearing when moving appliances?
Or is there another harder flooring product with the same profile that would be installed under the Refrigerator/Stove/Dishwasher?

I was concerned about damage, so set my elliptical on top of a couple of left-over planks. It's only been a few months, but there has definitely been some compression under the four spots where it hits the ground, so I'm really glad I put the extra planks down first.

Answer:
Cork and Hardwood floors can be installed under appliances, but some denting may occur. Cork does achieve a degree of recovery from such denting that hardwood would not. When moving appliances or other heavy pieces, the object should be lifted and moved if possible. If it must be rolled or slid, plywood or another hard sheeting should be used to protect the surface of the floor.

Cork info I've read states it is moisture resistant, why do you say it is not suitable for bathrooms?

Answer:
Per our installation and warranty, Cork Flooring is not recommended for use in full bathrooms. The constant change in humidity and high amount of moisture in these areas do not mix well with a cork or hardwood floor.

This should be suitable for any room of your home. I took the small sample home from Home Depot and let it soak in water for a couple days and it didnt absorb any water. I put it in my kitchen and bathroom.

Can I use 1/4" cork underlayment (over the 6mil vapor barrier)

I just want to know that this won't cause any problems with the click floor coming apart due to the cork underlayment being somewhat compressible. I know other similar brands of click lock floating cork flooring recommend using cork underlayment (the kind that comes in rolls or panels that just lie on top of the wood subfloor) The underlayment is to raise the total floor height to match adjacent hardwood flooring and also to add comfort and sound absorption.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love this flooring Love the look of this cork flooring. We put it on the wall in our guest bathroom. It looks great as an accent wall. I'm looking around in other rooms for places to use this product. September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great flooring Love the install and texture is fabulous. We've installed this in two homes and will continue to in future homes. August 9, 2016

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DO NOT PURCHASE THIS FLOORING! We purchased this flooring after talking to the salesman and getting reassurance that it would be fine with four kids and a dog. Not to worry about spills or anything like that because it was water resistant. After the first 6 months and several kid accidents we have bubbling all over the floor, the seams are warped. Every time water hits this floor it is damaged. We opened a claim and insisted on an inspector to come look at it, his conclusion was that our house was too humid... IN ALASKA?!? I told him all of the occurrences that happened to warp the floor, a spilled water, a puppy mess, etc all cleaned up within a minute of incident. The claim was denied. On top of that every piece of trim / transition strip is painted and if you use anything with wheels the paint comes off. Our floors are two years old and we are going to have to replace the entire house October 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great in my master bath I installed this floor a year and a half ago. It still looks great ( I have a dog who would rather run than walk, including in this space). I clean it with a combo of vacuum and damp mop. One concern I had was the low relative humidity here (<20%), but I haven't had any problems with the product shrinking or delaminating. I made my own trim/transition pieces from stock oak quarter round, etc., which I stained using a dark walnut water based stain overlaid with a light gray oil based stain. The effect is quite good and way more cost effective. Would definitely recommend this product, with no reservations. October 26, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great looking. Easy install. Having never installed a floor before, I found this product very easy to work with. Snaps together easily. Cuts like a breeze. Completed the job in two sessions. Finished floor looks great. The boxes do little to protect the product during shipment. Almost every box had some planks with broken edges. I used them anyway, because the damage was not on the finished surface, just the click edge. I tried to make sure those pieces were in low-traffic locations. So very little waste overall. I estimated that I'd have 4 extra planks when I placed my order. I had 4 extra planks when I finished the job. December 30, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by failed quickly when it got wet Many people seem to think this is a good fit for basement floors, but it isn't. Our basement took on water one time due to a failed sump pump. We dried it up the same day, but all of the cork came unglued from the backing boards. Checked the warranty. Yep, not covered. I'm switching to solid vinyl "wood look" planks for a water proof and not just a "moisture resistant" choice. June 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Easy Install This was simple to install! I used the flooring in my kitchen and I did plenty of research but decided to install the floor right over my laminate and it has held up perfect. The boxes were shipped fast and no tiles were damaged during delivery. I had a couple extra boxes and they took them back easily. The only thing is was disappointed with was the thickness. I thought that it would be a little thicker. But, none of my other concerns when ordering were valid. so far no appliances have scratched the floor. It has proved very easy to clean and I've been very happy. I would choose to use it again. January 28, 2014
