Product Overview

Cork flooring combines the beauty of a natural and truly renewable material with the comfort of a cushioned, warm and silent surface. It is highly sustainable since the cork oak trees are not cut. Only the outer bark is harvested, and it will grow again each 9 years. The new narrow and beveled plank format creates a more appealing and elegant look than traditional cork floors that are made in large panels. Cork flooring is warm underfoot, comfortable and soft to walk on, anti-microbial, fire and moisture resistant and provides unrivalled noise reduction properties. Installation is made easy with the precision milled glueless locking system. This floor features an integrated underlayment made out of cork. Easy maintenance: simply vacuum. Prefinished cork requires no additional sealing after installation. Warm to the touch and resilient, cork floors are a great addition to your home. Ideal for all levels of installation. This floor qualifies for 4 LEED points: (1) EQ4.3 (Indoor Environmental Quality)-Low Emitting, (2) MR4.1 (Materials and Resources)-Recycled Content, (3) MR 6-Rapidly Renewable Materials, (4) ID 1-Innovation in Design.

This flooring does not hold up as we had hoped.

Our floor, now 2 years old, shows wear in several places where the finish has been scuffed off.

We need some type of touch up product to seal and hide these marks.

Thanks,
- Jeff

Answer:
Yes, Millstead Cork floors can be installed over any flat, sound subfloor, including concrete. When installing on concrete, however, a vapor barrier must be installed over the slab prior to installation. We recommend 6-mil polyethylene sheeting (see attached recommendation).

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.0 out of 5 by 1 reviewer.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not what I expected After hearing rave reviews about cork flooring, we decided to do our living room, hallway and dining room using Topaz Plank Cork from Home Depot. It shipped in a very timely manner, I was happy about that; however, the quality of the shipping I was disappointed with. The boxes of cork came out on a pallet and they were only protected by paper board and plastic. Several pieces were damaged. The damage was likely due from the fact that the planks are pretty much cardboard in the middle, which breaks very easily, especially the cardboard tongue. At first we thought the floating floor system was pretty cool. After the first few rows, they just weren't clicking together in certain places. We did everything we could to remedy this but we just have to face the fact that there are some areas on our floors that aren't connected. Also, the floor just doesn't feel solid. You can literally feel the boards moving under your feet. Last, the topaz color is MUCH darker than it appears in this photo. I am going to have to clean the floors on a daily basis, as it shows every single spec of dust. Although the cork is nice and soft, something we were attracted to with little ones in the house, I do not recommend buying this product. I would go with hardwood, a timeless classic. August 11, 2012
