Answer:
Hi Dave,
According to the MFG-All sand must be vacuumed off floor prior to installation. Once installed the tiles can be vacuumed to remove sand and dirt.
Thank you.

I like the pattern of this carpet tile, but I'm looking for something that will not fill the whole room and I don't want to stick it to our hardwood floors? Can this be used as a rug?

Answer:
I wouldn't do that. The adhesive would not be fun to clean off the floor and you would most likely damage your wood floor when removing one day.

Yes, BUT, not the best looking floor as pattern does not match up and has to be laid at right angles.

Answer:
Hi Alex,
These carpet tiles are designed to be secured in place with the adhesive applied to the back.
If they are not glued to the floor they will slide all over the place, posing a slip and fall situation.
We do sell area rugs which are designed for the purpose you desire.

Can carpet tiles be cut on an angle; which kind of carpet work best for doing so?

This question is from Herringbone Bark/Cream 18 in. x 18 in. Carpet Tile, 16 Tiles-DISCONTINUED

I have an angled corner to my dining room, and having a hard time find an area rug to cover enough of the space without having to cut and bound the corner of the rug. I am looking into whether carpet tiles may be an easier solution. Attached picture is of the angled part of the dining room.

Answer:
Hello this is Tangelo from the Home Depot Community!
All of those carpets in your question are fine to cut at an angle, the ones you picked are needle punch construction. The ones to stay away from are either Loop or Berber construction, those types will unravel.
I hope this helps, if you have any more questions you can find me on our website at community.homedepot.com

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 17 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product and value I used this product to partially carpet my basement. It was extremely easy to install and allowed me to adjust squares if initially they were not placed as I wanted them. The material is very easy to cut with a carpet knife or scissors.I found that the best appearance was achieved by lining up the squares in the same direction rather than in checkerboard fashion. I recommend this product. August 2, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy, easy project for screened in back porch. Last time I laid carpet in my screened in back porch I bought a huge piece of outdoor carpet - what a pain in the behind. The carpet squares were so much easier. I didn't lay them following herringbone pattern - rather flipped every other tile. Really a very nice look. Oh a nap on tiles is so much better than the flat, felt-like outdoor carpeting. I highly recommend cleaning surface thoroughly (mine was concrete that had been painted by previous owners). I then wiped down the entire surface with denatured alcohol before laying the tiles. So far, so good. We'll see how they survive the winter here in Michigan. June 5, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by carpet tile the herringbone carpet tile I purchased went down nicely. It seems to be staying down thru vaccuming, but my cat did pull up one piece, it laid back down nicely. November 29, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by sO easy! We installed these over a wool carpet tile made of goat hair. Risky - I know! The older tile was very rough and scratchy and we have a baby that will be crawling soon. I liked the fact these are 100% recylcled materials and they are VERY soft! I was concerned they might not stick, but they stick very well. They were also SO easy to install. I did them during my baby's naps! A good pair of scissors worked just fine and there was no odor! They also look fantastic, I'm very pleased with the herringbone pattern. We plan to install more in another room. November 30, 2011
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by no padding, mismatched pattern Product is very thin. should have some kind of pad under it. If laid on a hard floor, it would not be much more than a thin blanket. In addition, I wanted to lay this in a straight hallway, but the pattern on the tiles did not match up at all horizontally, and was also off a little vertically (according to the arrow stickers on the tiles). I tried every possible direction, but it didn't look good in any direction. I have returned it. December 9, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very, very pleased Wrote a previous review after laying these tiles...easy, easy installation. Now they have survived the Michigan winter, wet spring and stayed stuck down and still gorgeous looking on my screened in back porch. Would highly recommend them. Just be sure to prepare whatever surface you're installing on thoroughly. June 22, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Very flimsy, not at all like commercial carpet tiles. Easy to install. The tiles are very flimsy; about 1/4" thick at most and totally pliable. That flimsiness does make them easy to install--just bend into place and cut as needed. But definitely not the quality of commercial carpet tiles. Disappointed that local stores don't carry at least a sample, but if they had, I probably would not have bought. January 29, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by It looks great. bought 7 boxes, and laid them accordimg to the way I wanted and they went down eaasily and matched up very nwell excep[t for the 7th box. The tiles would not match up in color or stripes Luckily, this box will cover the floor in the closet and not ruin rthe look of the room. March 5, 2013
