Product Overview

Engineered for performance, value and extreme reliability, Power Pet doors are motor driven and activated by a tiny ultrasonic collar. Other electronic pet doors merely unlock a hinged panel, requiring your pet to push it open. Thats something that a lot of pets don't like to do. Patented Power Pet doors open completely under there own power. They feature a translucent door panel made of a new super-strength, bulletproof resin. When your pet approaches, the air-tight panel quickly and quietly powers upward disappearing into the stylish housing. Because the panel moves up and down and does not swing out, it can mounted in hermetically sealed grooves for air-tight closure. This mounting arrangement makes it impossible for an intruder to kick it out. The result is the most secure pet door against intruders and stray animals. Your pets are empowered to come and go as they please while their animal friends are politely asked to stay out. Panel Size: 12-1/4 in. x 16 in. for pets up to 100 lbs.

  • New water-resistant collar operates for months on a single lithium battery and ultrasonic operation will not interfere with or be affected by other electronic devices
  • Directional sensing system opens the door only when your pet is on a direct approach, not when he is just wandering by, sitting or sleeping next to the door and dual range controls let you set independent inside and outside activation distances
  • 4-way access control lets you select from in only, out only, full access or closed and locked with automatic locking steel dead-bolt
  • 3 power modes: 1-standard AC wall adapter (included), 2 - optional, auto-recharging battery back-up protects against power outages (requires optional battery), 3-battery only without an AC wall connection (requires optional charger kit)

Customer Questions & Answers

If the puppy sleeps or hangs around near the door does it keep opening or stay open?

Asked by: Petmom
If you turn the sensitivity down it will not keep going up and down. Our dog had his food and water bowl within a foot of it and we didn't have any problems. It is designed to go up with your pet facing head on.

Is this door open/closable from other locations?

I am purchasing a dog door and am wondering if I was to install this door in my garage, if I could activate it with my smart phone. Eg. I leave for work at 5:30 a.m. but don't want the dogs out that early to wake the neighbors, could I activate it to open from my work place at a later hour. Or can it be put on a timer? Thanks.
Asked by: Simplykeeptraining
I installed this door on my parents house years ago. It cannot be operated remotely. However - a solution could be that your wall outlet have a plug in that IS capable of smart phone remote. That way the power is completely shut off from the door until you switch it on with your phone.

So according to the reviews the product is good but if I need help it sounds like customer service sucks. Is this still the case or have they changed this? I am Leary of buying because of this. Thanks.

I have 2 of these doors for about 8 years now. I have had to replace some parts over the years (motor and pull cable) but over all the doors have preformed well. Customer service is not great but the device is pretty straight forward and you can DIY pretty easily should you have issues. In my opinion this is a great product, I never worry about rushing home to let my dog out. One thing to keep in mind. The collar sensor requires a special battery (lasts about 3 months) that you have to purchase from "Hi Tech Pet", about the same price as a watch battery (old sensors took a CR2430's from Walgreens), but shipping is quick and Home Depot carries them, I keep a few spares on hand.

Asked by: Retta
Yes you need a collar for each dog which is about $37. After that you should only need to replace the batteries. I did order an extra collar just in case something happened to one of them, but that is not necessary. I would keep extra batteries on hand. For some reason you can't get them just anywhere.

I bought this door 5 years ago form HD and installed it next to my back door. It does work well but it's time for so revisions. 1. The outside sensor location on the door is in a very bad place . If you live where there is snows the snow sometime builds up on the sill of the door and covers the sensor and stops the door from working . Also if your dog puts a toy or bone on the sill this will also stop the door From working . 2. The door opener becomes temperature sensitive after about two yrs and when it's cold out each time the dog go's in or out the door will open and close 6 to 15 times ! ! Two of my neighbors also bought this door because of me and have the same 2 problems. But we think it's a ok door for the price .

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very cool BUT...... The door works great and is far superior to the standard one I used to own. I have had no issues with the door. It works as it should . I bought the optional backup battery to cover any power failures and tested and confirmed the door worked well with battery power. Now, my BIG BUT......the transmitter, which is the device worn by the dog, has fallen apart twice The face of the transmitter, which holds the battery, fell off. The first time I thought maybe the device was not clamped down all the way. However, when it happened again I knew it was defective. I live in Michigan and if my dog gets stuck outside when I am not at home she will die. I superglued the device closed so it cannot fall apart but it will also prevent me from changing the battery so it will be useless once the battery dies. The Home Depot service rep.completely took care of me and I will be receiving a new collar. I also ordered the "rugged" collar version just in case. My dog is 9 and not hard on the collar so for over 300 bucks the collar should be more robust.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from high tech power pet door The idea is great and once you get the settings correct for your dogs, it works great. I'm still working on the setting for how long the door stays up for the minpin, but the other dog is in and out all day long.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst purchase The door itself is great but what is the use of a great door if the collar doesn't work to open it. It is useless! I paid extra to buy the 100% waterproof collar as we live on a lake. It is certainly NOT 100% waterproof. The least bit of dampness causes the collar to fail. Each time I have to put in a new battery at approx. $12 each ( shipping to Canada is soooo expensive, plus the exchange and customs) Then it works for a couple of days and then Bingo, the end. The customer service is non-existant. The 1-800 number does not work from Canada so each call I make I have to pay for. No one every returns calls or e-mails.It is SO frustrating. They certainly were friendly when it came to purchasing the door, but no follow up service. My dog LOVED it for the short time it worked.....she now stands at the door with her nose pressed to the glass waiting for it to open.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from poor customer service! I have purchased 3 of this company's electronic pet doors and unfortunately have mixed reviews. While I have had very little problems with the doors themselves, the collars have quite a few issues. We have a large and medium door which we placed into the wall and a medium one for the patio slider, and as I said have had no problems with the doors. The collars, however, are a different story! They are flimsy and fall apart easily. You must buy the waterproof ones if you dog is going to splash through puddles or run in snow, or God Forbid, go for a swim!!! The batteries are expensive and are not easy to replace and the plastic housing breaks easily. This company's customer service leaves much to be desired as well. When I called once with issues and questions related to how to adjust the sensitivity to make the door work better, the customer service rep was curt and rude and treated me like a second grader. When my out- dated collars ceased to work and I was unable to produce my purchase order number, they were unable to help me. So, if you buy from this company, be sure you keep all receipts in a handy place---you will be needing them! They do not keep records of any purchases past the one year warranty period. What about keeping in touch with the clients who make purchases to let us know about new products and upgrades we may be interested in? Marketing 101.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall a good product. My dog adapted easily and made a game of it. Went through several times; I think for the fun of it. The unit arrived in good order and quickly. Having a problem with the locket. The snap in the locket had to be secured with a piece of tape. Difficult to get to speak to a rep. You must use email if you have a complaint or you want to discuss an issue.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Concept, Poor Design Easy to install; very convenient also, if near an electric outlet so that you do not need to purchase the battery (however, I am sure convenient if loss of power in the house). The sensor distance does not work as indicated. The worst design, however, is the collar. The life of the collar is very short. I have had the door less than one year and have been through 6 collars. There is not a long warranty for the collar and I have lost money at about $35 a collar. Clearly the design of the collar is not well made and the warranty itself is not a full year. If you are employed and gone from the house for more than 8 hours, I would not suggest this item as the collars are not reliable and your pet could be stuck inside or worse, outside and the collar just not work. Even replacing the batteries does not make them work!
