Hi jerry.
Yes, you can mount this deck sconce on a retaining wall. If this is a block type wall you will need to pre-drill your holes and use lead or plastic anchors to mount the back plate. The same goes with the low voltage wire which should be housed in outdoor electrical conduit.

Where does the wiring exit from the this fixture ? Is there a channel on the side so it can be mounted flush ?

There is a small hole and channel at the bottom. Keep in mind these are very small fixtures.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Accent Lighting The 7 watt bulbs put out very little light. I changed to a 18 watt bulb and got much better results. Also I had to run a larger wire otherwise the more lights you run the dimmer the light gets. after the 3rd light in sequence it was a noticeable difference in the light it put out. That is a issue with DC voltage. February 23, 2016
