Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I love this saw! I am a big believer in getting the best value when I buy tools and equipment and when I finally commit to a purchase I don’t want to have to do it again for many year. If you are like me I read all of the reviews and talk to my friends extensively before these types of purchases. There is not much information out there on the Hitachi but the specs and warranty kept me coming back time and time again. Opinions on this saw run the gamut just like every other product on the internet. I hope that reading this helps in your search. From the first time I fired it up I knew that I had made a great choice. The saw was incredibly light and well balanced. It started on the first pull and every pull since. I have run the saw for about 25 hour’s during my property clean up (it’s 3/4 acre in the suburbs that had not been taken care of in several year) and it has been a stellar performer. There is just about zero vibration, no fatigue after several 12 hour days. No issues with starting hot, one pull with very little force and she is off to the races. I have cut oak, cherry, maple, pine, and crape myrtle like a hot knife through butter. This saw also did a great job the vines and taproots that had overtaken the property. If you decide on this saw I believe you are making a great choice. I bought mine with a price match for just under $$ which really sealed the deal. If you live near Atlanta and you need the saw serviced over the next 7 years the national service center is in Norcross, but I don’t see that happening any time soon. • Tons of power • Light weight • Fuel efficient • Durable thus far • Top notch bar and chain included • 7 year warranty • Priced in the sweet spot between Homelite and Sthil April 9, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good saw Very good saw for medium duty service. I haven't used it on larger trees,so I can't review that. I used it for small to medium cleanup and very happy. September 1, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Good to cut 2 small treets I bought it and cut two small trees... that's it. It doesn't have power to cut any more trees!!! September 1, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Workhorse Purchased this saw as refurbished -- my first chainsaw. Starts easily, well-balanced, light enough for multi-hour use and cuts well. Great consumer warranty! I have cut down around 100 trees so far (some as thick as 30 inches) and it is still going strong. Chains are easily to change, sharpen and purchase locally and tension easy to adjust. Do yourself a favor and always ensure you wear proper safety gear when sawing (Kevlar chaps, steel toe boots, helmet, face shield, hearing protection and kevlar gloves). I would absolutely purchase this Hitachi chainsaw again. June 21, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by One of the Best Saws fro the Cost For Years I was wood cutter in AK and always used the Commercial Jonesred Saws After researching and looking Found the Hitachi 18 inch 40cc is a commercial saw After using it for about 3 weeks cutting Hickory Oak and Sweetgum. The saw is Awesome Always east to start runs strong and has plenty of power I only use Non-Ethanol Fuel Enjoy the saw and see many years of use June 3, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good value Purchased for a small job, but wanted professional qualities. June 3, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by very disappointed Read many, many reviews before purchasing this saw to replace my Poulan (also have a farm boss stihl), I knew it wasn't going to be a Stihl at 3/5ths the cost, but wanted a decent cutting mid range saw to do odds and ends cutting. Right out of the box, I went to adjust the chain, and the tensioner was bent. Fixted that myself and when I tried to use the adjustment screw on the outside of the chain case, half of the slotted screw head broke off! Quality is not great. The nuts holding the chain guard faceplate are tiny. Lots of plastic that doesn't look like it will hold up. I so wanted this to be a good saw..... the three 12' cuts I did get to make with it were ok, power was only somewhat better than my 30cc poulan. Don't know how to balance my review with some of the "5star" glowing ones. Just reporting what I saw, no pun intended. February 8, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Low Quality Poor durability due to lightweight construction. After minimal use the chain jammed on bar because of accumulated dust between the ratcheting gear and the groove of the bar(design flaw). This caused the adjusting screw to bend. Also overheating issues. Avoid the chainsaws made in China October 25, 2014
