Why do I need my water heater strapped in if it is in it's own little compartment and we do not live in an earthquake prone area? I have lived in this mobile home for 8 years and it came from the manufacturer not strapped.
Asked by: native68
Recommend you search out and comply with local building codes as those are written. Being out of code will create a matter with any related insurance claim, reselling the home, and more. You might politely contact the manufacturer for assistance but their ignorance is not the same as your compliance. A "mobile" gas water heater would require additional caution because of fatigue to the gas line from vibration during travels (even if you do not travel much). You must have come to realize that properly installed straps reduce the chances of a gas leak, or you would not be asking this question. Now that you have published a record of that for the world to see, it would behoove you to get in compliance.

Be sure to buy the right strap for your water heater size. This is good up to 80 gallons. 100 gallons will require a different one, also available at most Home Depots. Be sure to install the two straps at the right heights.

I'm not much of a handy man, but installed these with no real problems. Directions were fairly easy to follow. Straps are holding the tank firmly in place and meet my insurance standard for earthquake stability. Installed the same evening purchased and they look firm and snug, holding the tank in place. been about two weeks, with no problems, expect them to out last me.

Try to tighten the bolt and it pulled the bracket right out of the metal. Looked like it was made in a guys garage and put into a fancy box. I bet the box cost more than the materials in it. Junk!

There is not a mention of how much to tighten. These are not cinching the water heater to the wall. Continuing to tighten moves the water heater. 3. The bracket are flat. The water tank is curved. That makes a unnecessary pressure point.
