This safe is meant to be installed horizontally but it turned out that I didn't have 14 inches available. BUT I was able to mount it vertically (on its side). I had to drill holes in the top/bottom sides but it seemed to work well.
One of the included lag screws snapped (so I'd get a couple extra) and the door isn't what I'd expect in a $100 safe, but then it was only about a third that price. I'm sure it will work well enough for the run-of-the-mill intruder carrying a screwdriver as their main burgler tool.

Was pleasantly surprised that this safe, though inexpensive, seems sturdy and well-made. Extremely easy to install and comes with extra lag screws (that are long enough to make up for imprecise framing). Comes with two keys in soft plastic case. Color is not bright white, more of a gray/white. I had this shipped to my local HD thinking that would be pretty quick, however it took longer than I expected...around 10 days.

Best bang for the buck.
Strong, tight lock, even hinges, well made

Had to shim up the back side where the lock engages for a tight fit when locked (folded up some duct tape). Supplied mounting bolts are cheap and one broke in half during installation. Other than that is no issues. Would purchase again.

this is a good safe for hiding vavuables, it sits flush with was easy to install, not much room to put bolts in studs but with a long ratchet I made out fine make sure you drill pilot holes mahes it easier to set it in..it will hold large amounts of money a compact handgun..over all nice, cons, the keys DO NOT stay in safe I founf this out when I turned my back and keysn popped out.. other con is, the door could be pryed open if they really wanted to get in it..

Quick install, just right for family items that need to be kept safe, but accessible in short notice. Fits right behind a mirror in the closet and you would never know it was there.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Sabbato Great safe but terrible locking mechanism!
I bought two of these safes because of the great value and to get free shipping. Good thing I did because I had to replace the locking mechanism on the first safe with the second safe's a week after installation to avoid having to uninstall or order replacement parts for the first. A replacement locking mechanism costs $20 which is only $9 less than what I paid for the safe itself. If I had to do it again, I'd go for a more expensive wall safe with a better locking mechanism more suited for daily use.

I purchased two of these safe's a while back and wrote a review about the locking mechanism breaking. I used the mechanism from the second safe to fix the first one that I had already installed into a closet wall. Well, the second locking mechanism broke within a few days of using it as well. I went out and bought a much bigger and better safe with a punch code pad from Harbor Freight for $60.
