What is the estimated coverage of one can

Asked by: Scott
The can says it'll do eight square ft. The area Iwas doing was nowhere near 8 square feet and it wouldn't put enough on to match the existing i was trying to match.

how do I match ceiling texture that have flat odd shapes

Asked by: c1e2i3l4
To achieve a Patch Knockdown Wall Texture, see instructions in the link below. We recommend using the low odor, easy clean up Water-based Knockdown Wall Texture for this application. Homax also makes a Knockdown Knife specially designed for patching knockdown textures. Read the instructions on the can for application before you begin. If patching an existing knockdown texture you will want to adjust the nozzle to apply the desired pattern size that matches the pattern on the wall. Test on a piece of scrap drywall until you are comfortable with your technique. Apply the texture sparingly in a random pattern. If you wish to achieve a heavy knockdown (2-3" diameter pattern), you can apply several layers of texture, or apply as heavier "bursts" of texture to the surface. Allow texture to set, or partially dry. The set time will depend on how heavy the splatter texture is applied. Watch for the edges to begin to dry before testing knocking down a small area. You can always scrape off an area and re-apply if you choose. It’s important not to apply the texture over 100% of the surface (full coverage). The low spaces inbetween the texture splatters are what creates the dimension when painted over. Paint over as desired to achieve the finished look.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not for large spots We removed a closet and had to repair large spots in the popcorn ceiling after removal. I thought this would work well. After 3 cans, I finally figured out the best way to use it. Do not use small bursts as the can says, but large sweeping motions for larger spots. This will allow it to blend with the existing ceiling better. Otherwise it really doesn't look the same. It is also a VERY bright white, so you will likely need to paint the ceiling after the patch dries. Overall, it did the job, but was very, very messy and the can really doesn't cover very much area. The painting after was the hardest part!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk What a terrible product! I followed the directions very, very carefully after completely sealing off the small room where I needed to apply a square foot of texture to the ceiling. I shook the can more than a minute, as recommended. Pressed the nozzle . . . and nothing! After playing with the nozzle for about 30 seconds, it finally gushed texture onto the ceiling, which promptly fell to the floor. After repeated efforts, a small quantity of the texture ended up on the ceiling, while the vast majority ended up on the floor, plastic tarp covered walls and me. I sprayed in 1/2 second bursts, as recommended, but the product still ran out within about two minutes. This is a horrible product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works if you take your time Be sure to read the instructions and take your time. I tested on a small area first before tackling a larger area. You need to cover the area below as if you were painting. I started out slow and you cannot tell the area that was patched. Be sure to let it dry before going over again if you need a second coat. Would buy again.

Came back to bottle two hours later worked for 10 sec. and then stopped shooting. It just fizzed out. This product is messy and is very frustrating.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Need Experience As long as the ceiling is classic popcorn you can do a very good cover and blending job with this product. You will have to have had a lot of experience doing it go get good. Best results spray can upwards from min 3-4 ft. away and do in short bursts. You will have to blend a bit into old. You may also have to pop some the bigger globs with your finger to blend. If the ceiling is painted use the same paint.. there is over 200 shades of paint so matching will be impossible. If not painted but popcorn is old and stained your are gonna notice that it is lighter there a bit. There you go!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A great concept that's simply not DIY friendly When we had a small 8" square patch to repair I was hopeful this would be the solution. Conceptually, this is what you want. Spray it on and move along. Only it doesn't work. This is akin to spraying confetti mixed with oatmeal. Really wanted it to work, but it requires too much experience and delicate technique to get right. If you work with it over and over, perhaps you can get satisfactory results...but I'm a homeowner and don't want to perfect a technique. I want to fix a problem. The Homax premix tubs are way better and actually replicate the texture quite well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Homax In-Store Demonstration? I would like to challenge Homax company pros to give Home Depot in-store demos on HOW TO USE and APPLY the aerosol popcorn ceiling texture patch. No matter how careful you are and the most delicate touch you might have, this stuff will still WOOSH out of the can to create one big mess. Yeah, we know that the can needs to be shaken up because the mixture tends to settle to the bottom alright. Or, that the can needs to be warmed up in water first. HOMAX, have you thought about re-designing the "trigger" on the aerosol cans? Or possibly the diameter of the exit tube on the cans? Last week I tried calling Homax customer care and all I got was a recording of a survey that they have going. The aerosol can idea of spray on popcorn ceiling texture is a great concept but there needs to be more research and development to help make it more user friendly. Do you give $$ refunds or will it remain Buyer Beware?
