Answer:
Wait between 2 and 4 minutes depending on how heavy it was put on. Try a section lightly with a 6" knife. If it is too wet, wait a couple more minutes. Keep the knife almost parallel to the wall and I emphasize LIGHTLY run over the top of it to knock it down.

Rated 2.3 out of 5 by 47 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Okay - so there are a lot of reviews that are negative. I had about a 2' x 2' area of ceiling to texture in a bathroom. The negative reviews almost caused me to pull out my hopper and retexture the entire ceiling. With that said - this product seemed to work exactly as advertised. Yes, it is a mess. Yes, it will drip some - so cover everything. underneath and around. I followed the directions on the can - shook for a good minute. I actually put it in a pot of cool water for about 10 minutes before using. I started with the white knockdown nozzle. I knocked it down after about 7 minutes, LIGHTLY, and let it dry. I followed that up with 2 orange peel black nozzle coats. Letting it dry completely between. Did it match? Close enough. The reality is, it's almost impossible to match texture that has been up for 20 years and painted 3 times. The edges on that texture aren't crisp like new texture. One quick think I did was lightly - emphasize LIGHTLY - go over it with a damp sponge after it was dry to smooth the edges. All in all - this worked exactly as advertised and looks good. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst product ever A total waste of money. This product should be taken off of the shelves. I did a sheetrock repair under a window. I primed the patched area twice, let it dry, then applied this "texture" as directed. At first I though it would be okay, but as it dried it practically disappeared. The finial results was a smooth surface with a few small bumps. Nothing that approached being texture. February 23, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Garbage Can Purchase You will save yourself a lot of time and frustration by taking $14.00 and throwing it in the garbage can. It is useless for touching-up a patch on the ceiling, flow is unpredictable, way too watery.....and yes I did shake the can more than you could possibly need to...but still hit and miss results. Better off buying an actual hopper compared to the time and money wasted trying get this product to do what it claims. January 14, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by poor product--worthless The product is a total waste of money and time. The company should recall all their products, They put Spray Tex out of business, which was the only texture product that worked properly and gave consumers junk. I found it to be too watery and called their customer service to ask for help. They sent me a can from their factory, and it was the very same watery mess, even after shaking for 10 min. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by "BAD" More ends up on the floor then any where else certainly not for ceiling work. January 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DONT wast your money or time I've always used homax orange peel wall texture whether spraying walls or ceilings. In fact I've used the wall texture on all our ceilings after we scraped off the dated popcorn texture. However, I decided to try the "ceiling" one this time for the last bedroom. Terrible mistake. I followed the usual instructions of well shaking the product and using a scrap piece of card board for the initial spray, then proceeded to try and spray the texture to the ceiling after installing the applicator straw. While spraying I held the can 12"-18" away from the ceiling as instructed on the can and I even tried other distances. NO mater where I held the can the majority of the texture ended up any where but the ceiling. A small fraction of the texture actually stuck to the ceiling, however the majority fell to the floor. Hormax's so called ceiling applicator can could not actually spray the texture on the ceiling. I will grab one more can of the normal wall orange peel and use it to finish the job, but I will never buy this ceiling texture again! I strongly suggest you don't January 3, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Save time and money. This product saves me time and money. From reading some of the other revue I can see that the instruction are not being followed. I wish Home Depot would keep this stock on their shelves. November 5, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible product Against my good judgement, i bought 2 cans to do a very small job. Nozzle clogs and drips. Material is way to watery. Compressed air ran out before i could even get to half the can. I followed the directions to the tee but the product is just garbage. It was more like colored water soaking into the wall. I cant believe that this product was approved for the market. Taking the used and the unused stuff back for a refund. If this product worked for you then you just got lucky that you got a good can out of the millions sold. More power to you. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME. July 18, 2015
