If you have a number of cans of leftover paint mix 50/50 ratio of clay type cat litter to paint ... let set for one hour, leave the lid off of the can.

The paint hardener was a great value for the money and for a very small investment I was able to prepare 5 gallons of paint for the landfill.

It took 1 1/2 packets in most paints. Still, for the price, an effective way of hardening years of old paint for curbside pickup.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by JackP works great but
The product works as advertised and will turn a can of old paint into a solid block if you follow the directions and a few extra steps. Apparently it interacts with the latex base and not the water and pigments that will separate out over time. I got better results by remixing the paint first then STIRRING IN the hardener powder. I emphasize stirring in because this is an absorbent, not a binding agent or hardener. Stirring it in slowly until the entire contents of the can become like cottage cheese seems to yield the best results.

Over the years we had accumulated several half used cans of paint which we could not get rid of. This product did what it says and we were able to put out 15 gallon cans during our town's last clean-up. I did take the cottage cheese-like paint out of the cans and put that in plastic bags. It did not get completely hard as some of the other writers indicated. Good stuff. I purchased more to have on hand for future paint projects.

This product will turn paint (about 2/3 of a gallon) from a liquid into something which looks like extremely thick and sticky cottage cheese. It takes time. Give it 15 minutes as directed on the package.
I had one can of very old latex paint (12 years old) where the water was very separated and the product didn't work as well as when I used it on a five year old can of paint. Try remixing the paint before adding the product if the paint has really separated.

I ordered several packets of the Wast Away Paint Hardener as we were cleaning out our office and had several old cans of paint to dispose of. The product was easy to use and worked very well. I can say that within the prescribed 10-15 minutes the paint was hard enough to dispose of.
