I have used the Homax medium texture many times over the last dozen years. I typically do a couple of coats or until I am happy with the look, then put a final coat of paint without the texture to make sure it is all sealed in well. I am not one of those that try to get by with as little paint or coats of paint as possible. I figure I am saving a bundle not paying a painter so I can spend extra on paint and supplies. I love doing doors with this texture. The doors look like stone and it hides small dings. The texture looks good with everything from flat to glossy paint. Glossy ceilings are the new modern style, and this texture makes it look amazing.

I used a 100% acryllic paint/primer with this additive to simulate stucco. After a good priming, I stirred a mixture of paint and the highest recommended amount of sand texture (6-oz. per gallon of paint). It was relatively clean and easy to mix, and seemed not to clump in the paint. I was not able to roll on the paint, but I wanted a very detailed texture, so instead used a 2.5" brush on the whole room. The effect was exactly what I wanted, and gave the room a very authentic, hand-crafted texture. The additive did not seem to increase the amount of paint required at all, and coverage was very good. I recommend this Homax additive for good surface depth, but I would definitely prime first or use a paint/primer (or both, as I did). Looks great!

This is the first time I have used a sand additive to paint. I have 60-year-old plaster walls that have seen better days so I thought I would try it on a bathroom wall. It does what it says it will do but is very difficult to apply. It literally fell off of a large brush all over the floor. Using a roller is better but you have to go over and over it all kinds of ways to get the texture to spread evenly. It also takes a long time to dry.
I would recommend this product if you have a really bad wall and don't mind spending all kinds of time painting. Other than that, I would not.

Mixed up a gallon this weekend and rolled it on with a 3/8" roller just as directed. Application was no more difficult than rolling out the paint alone. Mixed up a stiffer batch the second gallon to tackle some imperfections in the wall. Still pretty easy to roll. I love the flexibility this product affords!

As I read in another review yes it does go on much better with a brush. I've rolled it onto ceilings with eggshell. You can roll it on but it has to be rolled heavy and quite even. Do not breathe this stuff in, it flies easily until it's wet.

The product is easy to use. Simply just add to paint and brush on or can even be used with a roller. Great for covering repairs or high visibility areas. Cleanup was easy with soap and water.

I was looking for an affordable wall texture product that was easy to use and I stumbled upon Homax Sand Roll-On Paint Texture. The price was right so grabbed it and headed home to get to work. Within minutes of being home I had the product mixed into my paint and ready to go on the wall. My wife and I loved the results and couldn't recommend a better product. Thanks Homax!
