For those that think that the poles don't fit, think again. You're building it upside down. This tricked even my electrician who told me to take the item back. However I spent about 10 mins analyzing the instructions before realizing he was building it upside down which is probably what most people inexperienced with christmas yard decorations would assume because out of the box, the wiring and base gives the impression that the Santa and gifts belong in the hot air balloon bucket, but they in fact go on the flat side of the bucket, not in the bucket. Certainly confusing and I actually had to figure this out without the instructions so I can certainly understand why most have given a low rating. I'm giving this one 5 stars because if built correctly, it looks great and holds up well in the FL weather, rain and strong winds. I actually built a platform with shelf brackets that I screwed into my 20ft tall palm tree and then screwed the hot air balloon into the plywood board. It sits about 8ft from ground and it looks great. The kids in the neighborhood think it's one of the better pieces I have displayed this year. You can see for yourself how it turned out in my photos.
Yours truly, the neighbor with the tacky christmas light display you can see from space.

Time consuming & a little confusing putting it together. When I ordered it, I was hoping that I could hang it from a tree.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by shopper read review"great if you know what your doing Dec 23
My husband struggled with the poles and santa like so many others. He asked me to read the review where the gentleman explains what most were doing wrong. His review is so helpful. We were trying to tuck the santa and gifts in the basket when in fact you turn it upside down and place the santa and gifts on top the basket. The poles are meant to stick in the short little pole slots sticking up. Because he had already had the balloon together the rest fell in place in a matter of 3 or 4 minutes. I gave it four rating because I have a hole and a runner in my fabric. This is not a Christmas decoration to just throw in a corner. Fabric can tear and the structure could bend out of shape if handled carelessly in storage. I like it. It's cute. All lights worked and now I know I can keep it for next year's Christmas.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by DYIprincess Hassle to assemble hassle to keep it from falling!
It's a good bold looking decoration, but assembly directions were less than stellar! The biggest problem was to keep it from falling down when it's windy outside. I ended up buying stakes and tying it in 4 places with a green wire! That works, but the metal hooks the manufacturer provided are useless.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DIYer Factory assembly inncorect
Would have been pretty simple to assemble, however factory assembly was just plain WRONG. Base was soldered upsidedown which meant santa and presents would not connect. This was okay, fixed with a box for height. The poles to attach balloon fit into base, but poles were same size as connection on balloon, could not be inserted. Completely worthless, returning!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Hobes Looked neat - lights wouldn't work
Assembly required, not difficult, but it takes a little time. The lights inside of the air balloon that we purchased worked, however, the colored lights that go around the outside of the air balloon would not work. I tried new fuses and it still did not work. Not sure if I would get a replacement or try something new when I return it..

This is a nightmare to put together!! Nothing fits together like it should, you basically have to make it fit together with tape and twist ties and whatever you can come up with. It's cute, but I don't think it will last long outside. A BIG HEADACHE!! Buy something else!
