I read the reviews but bought them anyway so I am to blame here. After reading the reviews my feelings were there are some quirks but seem to be some simple workarounds. First definitely find at least one stud but if you don't find 2 the shelf will be really flimsy even with the arrow pointing up on the bracket. I drilled new holes in the plate to find a stud and had to buy new anchors for the other holes because the included drywall anchors are of the lowest quality available and do not bite at all. Shame on the manufacturer to include winged plastic anchors to hold a shelf on a wall. I got these for my sons playroom to store assembled legos. size wise they are perfect but I am not confident in the shelf's ability to hold 1lb worth of legos. When the shelf was slid on to the bracket and attached with the included screws there was a lot of play in the shelf and I credit the awful drywall anchors for part of that problem the other part is a flawed design and inexpensive parts.

had to do a little modification because of the lack of support that the product has but we knew this going in. If you can find a way to bolt the thing to the wall then the bracket will have less chance of pulling out of the wall.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by reb277 In-Place shelves look great--but with tricky installation
These In-Place floating shelves look great once installed.
Installation can be tricky. There is a backplate (see pictures 1 + 2) which attachrd to the wall and the shelf (see pictures 3 + 4) which attaches to the backplate. The tricky part is that you really should/must hit a stud with at least one screw when attaching the backplate. I installed it to a basement wall which had paneling, not drywall. So the drywall anchors included were of little use to me. I used hollow wall anchor screws instead (bought separately). After sliding the shelf onto the backplate, there are holes to anchor the shelf onto the backplate with screws. Unfortunately, not all the holes lined up with the backplate holes. I did manage to line up at least one anchoring screw on each shelf, so they are pretty securely anchored.

Very happy with the quality and installation of the shelves. Ordering process and delivery also very efficient.

Easy to follow instructions for installation. Agree that a "wider anchoring brace" would allow it to spand 16" on-center studs for a more secure shelf. Othewise, they look and function great

I would recommend mounting to studs....mounting to plasterboard only will very much limit weight it can support. even mounted to studs shelf will not hold a full load of nooks. holds cable box and DVD player with no problem..

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by RBCDBP Creative installation helps
I installed this type of shelf several years ago and also found that the holes in the mounting bracket didn't match up with the location of studs in my walls. I located and measured the studs and then drilled new holes through the bracket to match. My shelves hold loads of books and baskets, but screwing into studs is a must for neat, safe, and robust installation.
