Customer Questions & Answers

Has Quality Improved

We bought 2 in July 2014 for a large greatroom expanmsion. One failed within a few months. The other is quiet and continues to work well. How does one diagnose if it is the motor or receiver? How do I go about getting a new receiver?
Asked by: Stew
The common problem with this fan is the receiver failing. Unless your remote light does not come on while pressing a button, the receiver is shot. I have had my fan 5 years and never turned it off, until we left the country a while. So changing the battery did nothing, and I called the 800 number provided. It will cost me $53 for the new part since I have had it longer than two years and knowing that everyone one else has this problem, once I install it, I will leave it running for the pennies a month it costs to leave it on.

I have seen this fan in Home Depot. The box clearly states indoor/outdoor. Are the blades wood or plastic?

Also, is housing made for outdoor use on a covered screen porch?
Asked by: Cris
The blades are wood.

Remote in box was missing!

Does anyone know how I can get a remote for this ceiling fan? It was supposed to be included but, it was not in the box. Any help would be greatly appreciated. As of now, we have zero way to adjust speed. We purchased it yesterday 7/2/2016 from local home depot.

Can you make it go faster? Very, very slow, not much air volume at higher speed.

Asked by: Fran
I have the same problem. Fan moves very slowly and barely moves any air. They said it doesn't work well without the downrod. That is something that should be in the information before you purchase the fan rather than saying the downrod is optional.

I bought 3 of them for rooms in my house and two have failed after 18 months. The receiver on the unit fails and the fan won't start again after turning it off. If you contact Home Depot they don't carry a replacement part and will only give you the customer service number for Hampton Bay fans. Finding the replacement part has proven difficult and is back ordered from Hampton Bay fans. My research on the internet reveals that this is a common problem with this fan. If two of the three fans have failed I'm sure it's only a matter of time before it's 3 of 3.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Altura 68 in. Oil Rubbed Bronze Ceiling Fan and light kit Several years ago, we installed two of the Altura 68" oil rubbed bronze ceiling fans. One in our living space and one over the dinning table. We really enjoy the style and air movement, so much so, this year we added two more, one in the master and one in the guest room. Delima! We needed more light in the dinning area, so for several years we searched and just could not find a suitable substitute for this stylish work horse of a fan. We have not had to used the air condition during the warmer Sacramento, Ca. months since installing the fans. This week we purchased a light kit, to give it a try. We thought it would take away from the simple beauty of the fan. We were wrong, the additional light enhanced the appearance of the fan. . We purchased light kits for all four fans, and are very pleased with the additional light and the sustained style. Again this fan is a work horse. I open a few window early in the morning, turn the fans on to draw in the cool night air. At one time we thought we had a defective fan, because it was not moving air as well as the others. We soon discovered we had forgotten to set the reversible motor for optimum air movement. I told my husband when we sale our home I am taking the fans with me.

Loved the looks, very quite and good air flow. That is until it just stopped working. Changed the battery in the remote - still nothing. Read the other recommendations which included getting a replacement remote/sensor. Except when I looked up the part number - it is discontinued. What the?! Now I have to take the thing down and haul into the store for a replacement?! I am very unhappy that fans aren't coming with an option to hardware into a switch. This wouldn't be an issue if it had.

After I installed the fan though, it would come on all by itself, change speeds by itself or reverse itself. I changed the frequency several time and even turned everything of in the house that could possible interfere before I changed it. It still kept doing it. I called costomer servce and they sent me a new reciever. I installed the new reciever but the same thing keeps happening. I called costomer service again and they said there was nothing they could do and said the only thing I could do was return the fan to home depot within 90 days of purchase and purchase a different fan.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Loved it while it was working, but add me to the list of folks with remote receiver problems When I purchased this fan 2-3 years ago all of the reviews were good. We have a large bedroom with a vaulted ceiling and this fan moves a lot of air even on the low setting. It stopped working this week and when I checked online to see if I could identify the issue, MAN have the reviews changed. It appears that several people who purchased this model around the same time have had the same bad experience. The remote receiver goes out and the fan will not function. The part is backordered until November which means this unit is going in the dumpster. It's a shame because it's a good looking fan and performed well when working. I'll spend the extra money and go with a name brand next time.

We remodeled our entire downstairs and put this fan in our vaulted entryway. Looks good. Unfortunately, at 2 years and 1 day, it just quit working. I went through all the FAQ's and troubleshooting steps, still no luck. I wish I would have read the reviews prior to my purchase, because this is a common issue with most of the 1 star reviews. It just quits. Save your money and buy a fan from a company that will stand behind their products.
