The tracks for the keyboard drawer and the utility drawer were bent, making it impossible to close either fully. It took some work and adjusting to get them to operate correctly. Additionally, one of the blocks inside the cabinet that the hinges attach to was not secure, (fell out!) requiring gluing and clamping before assembly could be completed. The finish on the desk seems "thin" and delicate. The slightest scratch exposes a very light color. It would NOT recommend this desk to anyone who does not have some carpentry skills. Simple assembly wasn't really that simple given the repairs that needed to be made on the unit I purhcased.

It is a very nice piece of furniture when assembled, but the factory didn't cut all the pieces to match correctly, so I had to grab my hammer and chisel so that the back panel would fit into the grooves cut for it on the top and bottom pieces. Also, the drawer slides for the small drawer weren't installed correctly at the factory, so the drawer wouldn't close -- I had to unscrew it, drill 4 new holes in the proper places, and re-install them. Had it not been for that, assembly would have been a piece of cake. Also, if you're putting a computer in the cabinet with door, you should drill some holes in bottom up front for proper ventilation.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by jess1g ultimately looks great
This desk and hutch were a ton of work for my husband to put together- the locks/screws don't seem to line up easily and, in his words, he couldn't think of a more complicated way to design something so simple. However, now that it is together, it looks great. I was worried that the wood wouldn't be real wood, but it seems to be. I love the finished look and everything ultimately lines up and works without sticking, etc. I would suggest that its a wonderful deal for the price PROVIDED you are prepared to put it together and do some tinkering with the screws, etc. My husband is a very handy guy who can build stuff from scratch and he found this to be annoying.

Purchased the desk and 2+6 Cabinet Unit....Desk was easy to assemble but I strongly suggest going through the list of pieces and examine them for defects and make sure they are all there before you begin assembly. A few dings from shipping but easily fixed with the wood color markers you can buy at your local hardware store. The 2+6 Cabinet had a little more issues- broken piece of base but was fixed- we had a deadline due to Christmas and fixed with wood glue overnight. Again examine and check in all pieces- note: pieces may be grouped together so you think you are missing pieces...for example drawer sides- parts 2 and 3 packed in wrap together and not always clearly marked with sticker. Overall happy with the product.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Strat Very nice indeed.
After reading all the prior reviews about ill fitting drawers & poor quality or damaged panels, I was a bit leery to purchase this desk. However, I did give it a shot, & it all went together very well. I have assembled things similar to this many times & have cursed the terrible engineering, so I had quite the negative attitude about how it would go together. Either I was lucky, & received a very good one, or the manufacturer has heeded the negative reviews & tightened their quality control. One of the best I have ever put together.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by KDWestchester It all worked out in the end
The price was right and the customer service excellent, but the a couple of the pieces of the product were splintered when they arrived. I used wood glue to make sure they stayed attached and then began assembly. There were a lot of pieces but the instructions were good for the most part. I had two pieces of the desk that were mismarked which caused some confusion, but took the time to realize that based on the pictures in the instructions. Additionally, the drawer sliding mechanism was too high and the desk drawer would not shut, I had to remove it and reattach is lower so that it would slide and shut properly. I also changed out the hardware to give it a less rustic look. I would not recommend this product, but I would recommend Home Decorators Collection, their customer service was amazing during all this.

My sister bought one of these and it arrived without directions, but I'm handy and figured out how to put it together relatively easily. I liked it enough that I then bought one for my son. This one had some problems. One slotted board wouldn't align right so I had to throw it on the table saw and cut a new groove, which probably isn't an option for many people. And the drawer slides for one drawer were installed a full half inch too high. I had to remove them and reinstall them.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by HLS21 Horrible!
We ordered this desk several months ago and finally received it. The first one we got we noticed that the holes did not match up after spending an hour or so putting it together, so they shipped us another one. Once we received that one, we got the entire desk put together and on the last step (putting the middle drawer on) the hinge broke off, which is something that is already assembled when you get it. Horrible product...do not buy!
