Product Overview

The Hampton Bay Bentley II Outdoor Natural Iron Oscillating Ceiling Fan with Wall Control has a caged fan design and is great when air circulation needs to be directed or if space is tight. It also has an oscillating feature that sways back and forth, creating a nice breeze. Operation is easy with its included wall control which can be installed in place of an existing wall switch. This fan is also rated for damp locations so it can be used under covered outdoor locations. The oscillating function can only be used if a 3-wire conducting cable has been installed in your existing wall switch to the ceiling junction box (a red wire inside your ceiling junction box is evidence of this connection).

Answer:
You will need three wire in between the switch and the fan. The oscillator has to have a separate wire from the switch. You can not wire the fan and oscillator to the same wire.

Answer:
You do not need a black and red wire TO the wall control - just a single neutral and hot. FROM the wall control TO the fan, you have two hots (black and red) - one for fan speed control and one for oscillation control. You of course also have a neutral from the wall control to the fan.

Answer:
A single hot is ran to switch.. This hot is then transferred to the fan and oscillator from the two hots coming out the other side of the switch. These two hot lines connect to the red and black leads. The three speed switch goes to the fan and the on/off goes to the oscillator. The white commons are connected outside the switch to complete circuit.

Answer:
If you want to run the fan and control the oscillation then you'll need two hot wires from the switch to the fan. Now as far as wiring up the switch with power to that would just be a black wire that is hot from the breaker.

Ed Yano, I'm not sure who you work for but I Called home decorators collection(again) and talked to tech support and you're right each switch is rated for 1.25 amps but that's only enough to properly power one fan. Two fans will oscillate fine but the way the switch restricts power to slow the fan speed down makes it only compatible for one fan per wall switch. SO BUYER BEWARE, one fan per wall switch!

So I called the factory and they said it couldn't handle the load. One fan spins faster than the othe r when turned on. I clearly wired it correctly because had I switched the legs, one would oscillate when the other runs and visa versa.

It doesn't have a wireless remote. Also, its not a wire to the fan to oscillate, its more a wire FROM the fan to both power the switch and then communicate back to the switch to handle speed and oscillation. The whole three wire is used to control the fan and you can not use it to power the fan from a power in located at the switch box. The fan still need power to run. That's why you run wires to it. But to turn it on/off & change speed, you have a remote for that so you can stay on sofa to change speeds etc. it nice to want to change speed and only have to use remote.

Answer:
Around 12' because the safety requirements are that it needs to be at least 10' from the floor because the cage is open enough to possibly have hair or a finger pass through the cage opening.

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 45 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good for directional air flow Great little fan for a small area or anywhere you want directional airflow. I installed this in my garage for cooling above the work bench. It helps a lot, even though it is nearly 20' off the ground. I used a work around for the 3 wire circuit requirement. Using a universal fan remote like the Hampton Bay basic on/off remote allows you to control oscillation on a standard two wire circuit. You just use the light function to turn oscillation on/off. There are more advanced remotes that also have speed control. August 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by SKU and Box do not match COLOR Bought this fan by model number which was for Natural Iron. The product is actually "Burnished Bronze" which is stated on the box with the sku for the other color. Also can't get info on remotes offered for this product. August 28, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Very Cool but..... First off, appearance wise this is a very cool fan. But the manufacturer has poorly engineered it. While it works on high, other settings are barely functional. And it's because I do NOT have a 3rd line running to that outlet in the ceiling. MOST houses do NOT have a 3rd leg running to outlets. So why on earth did you design it that way?!? I will keep the fans because I like the look. And maybe eventually run a new line to it. But really..... KNOW who you are marketing to and make it easy for the consumer. 5 stars appearance, 1 star designwise. July 5, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Love the look but the durability is lacking Bought two of these for my back patio and had a professional electrian come install them. They both worked at first then after a few minutes one of the units stopped working. The electrian checked all of the wiring and breakers and nothing was wrong. He assumed it was a faulty switch. So the other fan was still working fine and continued to do so all of the first day. But now it has started not oscillating. The electrian is coming back out to look at the fans. He is hoping a new switch will fix the first one and he is going to look at the second one to see what's going on with it. I'm extremely disappointed in this products durability. I am hoping it is a simple fix and the fans will work because I love the look of the units. June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GREATEST FAN EVER Purchased this fan for our porch. Installation was simple even added a remote control to it since we didn't have a place for wall switch. On hot days we on now sit on porch in better comfort than before. One suggestion if you're going to install a remote make sure you purchase a multi speed remote so you can adjust the fan speed also June 24, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Fan or flop I purchased this fan for a new screened inclosure. I did not want to install ceiling fans so when I saw this I thought it would be great for the space. I like everything about it except for the fact that it only ocilates 45 degrees. I would have worked better if it ocilates at least 90 degrees. My next option is to move it to a wall mount instead. July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I love it The wall control is very practical, and the fan has a modern and beatiful design. July 23, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Exactly the look I was going for, but only works on high. I purchased this fan for my bathroom the current bathroom fan was not pushing enough air. My husband installed the fan which took 3 hours. Then it would only work on high, of course that is very loud. We called a electrician to come and reinstall. He reinstalled and it would still only work on HIGH. After paying for a electrician and the overall amount of time it took and the hole in the ceiling. I kept it just because I did not want a large hole in the ceiling while they sent me a new one. June 20, 2016
