Does this post light plug into an outlet or do I need an electrician to run electricity to it? Also, can it be installed on top of dirt or does it have to be installed on concrete or some other solid surface?
Thanks,

No plug. Electricity will need to be run to it. Should be installed on level concrete or some other sold surface, not dirt.

If you do not know how to attach a plug to the wires, you would need an electrician or a handy person to hook up the light to electricity. I am not sure how you would install this light on dirt since it is top heavy and does not stand alone. You would have to mount it on a heavy base and then it could stand upright on the dirt. If the floor is concrete, the manufacturer does provide you with bolts to mount the light into place. Read Less

Hi EJLopez34,
This lamp is designed for a permanent installation and must be secured to a concrete foundation.
Electrical connections will have to be done by a professional electrician.

Answer:
Yes,but only if you wire it to a photo-sensitive switch programmed to control it that way. Alternately, wire it to an ordinary switch, turn on at sun-down, off at sun-up!

This lamp does not come with an electric cord, We ran power to the pole and had a sensor and an outlet installed. The sensor does control the light coming on at dusk and off at dawn. Hope this helps

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 53 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful Lamp post I purchased this online and received it the next day. We did all the wiring ourselves - and the hardest part was getting the individual sections together once the wires were snaked through. Once done though - it looks great. Only suggestion if you don't want to light up the whole neighborhood - I suggest using 25 watt bulbs - not 60 or 100 - we switched them out after it looked like a beacon! August 23, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by crooked pole The lamp is cute but the pole is crooked. Was told would have to bring it to Home Depot to exchange. That would involve taking out the dusk to dawn switch, undoing the electrical then redoing it to replace it all. My husband said it is too much work. I noticed after we put ours up two neighbors in the front of the developement have the same crooked lamp. It is crooked from the middle pole to the top pole. March 21, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fair price for the product Overall I'm satisfied with the light. It was pretty easy to install. I thought the pole should be stronger. It also comes in multiple pieces. We shall see how it holds up over time. Otherwise a great light for the price. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful Post Light ! We liked the look of this post light, and based on its (mostly) positive reviews we purchased it. I found it to be very good quality both in metal fabrication and finish appearance. Assembling it was straightforward and I had no difficulties. I'll add that the packaging of all the pieces was excellent. I had to replace an old post and its cement pillar foundation. So I needed to form and pour a new cement base, including conduit to carry the feed wire up through the middle of the base. Since I did this, I chose not to use the 3 included anchors that are meant to be inserted in drilled out holes. I didn't want to mess with drilling holes in concrete! I opted to use 6" zinc bolts for greater depth/hold, which worked perfectly. At first I thought the aluminum pole pieces were rather lightweight / thin. But after assembly, I thought they were fine and have good strength. Any heavier duty would have made the whole post too heavy. I did not have any problems with the lamp being 'crooked', as a few have reported. I don't understand how they could have this problem, unless they didn't screw pieces together properly. Totally delighted with this post light. It really looks SUPER and adds the style we were seeking! August 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Nice Post Light Very happy with this purchase. Great quality at a very reasonable price. I was surprised at how well this product was made since it is one of the cheaper post lights available at $169. Assembly was a breeze and installation went well. I'm using 100 watt LED bulbs and it lights the area intended very well. July 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product and amazing shipping The lamp post is just as it was described and pictured. It was easy go assemble and came with all its parts. It works well. We have only had it for a few weeks so time will tell how it holds up to the weather. The best part of this experience was that I ordered it on line on Thursday a little before noon and it was delivered to my house the next afternoon for free!, July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Post Light Excellent service from Home Depot with free shipping. Pleased with the product, The description matched the quality of the product. June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic Looking Light Post This lamp looks great and really puts out the light based on the wattage of the bulbs you put in. Obviously, you are going to pour a small slab or concrete to bolt this lamp post down. The concrete bolts need to be longer. The bolts provided were to short for me. I recommend purchasing 8" bolts for the foundation. Template provided worked great. June 23, 2016
