Customer Questions & Answers

Can the length be shortened?

The shade is 72" long. My window is only about 36" high
Asked by: Lynn
The reason there are so many yes and no answers is that the question is not qualified. If you want Home Depot to do it then no, the length can not be modified. They have a machine that cuts the width and this they will do. Cutting the length with a machine is not possible. If you want to do it yourself or order them through a blind company, then yes they can be shortened. You have to disassemble the blind by removing the 2 buttons which releases the internal cord. Then the pieces have to be slid apart to get to the cells. The cells are then cut through the entire length and the whole thing is put back in reverse order. If you google it, there are sites that explain in detail how to go about it.

how do i install this?

Asked by: Anonymous
Attach two (2) or three (3) brackets using supplied wood screws. Clip plastic upper rail into brackets. Caveats: Screws in window frames can be tricky. Nails, metal sheetrock tape, and knots can make the process crazy; sp predrill holes with a good sharp drill. As many have said, attaching the top rail to the bracket can be painful. The brackets may seem like the wrong type, but they do work. Angle the top rail slightly, slip the rail OVER the front of the bracket - there is a small tab on the front side - the rail's plastic lip goes over the tab; press the rail firmly back on to the tab; once the tab is engaged, press the back of the rail upwards into the clip. Some clips seem easier than others; if you can't get the rail to snap into place, make sure you've fully engaged the front tab. In all cases where I couldn't get the back of the rail to snap and lock in place, not being all the way on that front tab was the problem. Bending the front tab down slightly allowed the rail to engage fully.

is there any way I can clean these blinds (cordless light filtering cellular shade - white)? I have them in the kitchen and there are spots on them that drive me crazy. I hope I can clean them without ruining them.... I don't really want to buy new but I can't have them hanging the way they look. Please let me know any tricks you might have to clean these blinds. Thanks...... LM
Asked by: LM
You are VERY lucky they lasted long enough for you to want to clean them. These are cheaply made and don't usually make it past two months. They aren't made to be cleaned because they aren't made to last. Just buy new ones.

how do I know if what I am ordering is an inside mount or an outside mount. They don't give yu a choice.

Asked by: Jackie
It's technically both. The bracket & mounting hardware is the same, regardless of which hanging style you choose. Basically, if you want to mount it inside the window box/frame, buy the size that's the same width as the frame. If you want to mount it outside the frame, order the next size up, either the next half-inch if you want only a quarter-inch overlap on each side, or next full inch if you want a half-inch overlap on each side.

I believe that the reason many people have trouble with mounting the blind to the brackets is that the "lip" sticks out too far from the factory. The tolerances on the bracket are tight and the lip has to go all the way around and snap into the bottom edge at the back of the "header" piece. From the factory the lip cannot reach that far. Solution: Using a flat object or pliers press the lip back permanently. See right-side image. (The left-side is how it is from the factory). This gives the lip more length vertically and should now reach the bottom edge of the header piece when attaching. Also open the blind 1/4" and stick your thumb in there so that the cell material does not get caught when the lip snaps into place. Using your thumb at the back pushing upward, (rather than fingers) gives more leverage and will snap in easier.

Don't buy these shades.... shade is great but they are packing the wrong size metal brackets to hang the shade. There are plenty of review complaints about this hanging with the metal brackets....so I looked at a shade (same type) I installed last year in seconds.... I notice the metal mounting brackets looks *almost* the same but its smaller with my new shades I just brought 11/29/2016..results either very hard to hang or will fall down easy since not a tight grip. What I notice with the older shade bracket is.....the part you can bend up or down at the rear of metal bracket with a flat head screwdriver is longer and can grip shade tight...my new shades brackets have a shorter tab to bend up or down and this doesn't grip the top rail well/or at all. Bad brackets so don't by until they recall these shades and replace these undersized brackets!

Like everyone else, my husband (an engineer) had an awful time clipping the shades onto the terrible brackets. To add to the problem, the end clips did not fit properly, resulting in one getting cracked. And this was after I had to return one of the 4 shades we bought because the shade cutter in the store massacred one of the shades' metal ends so that it was terribly uneven and the plastic end clip wouldn't stay on. The shades do glide up and down easily and really stay put. I was afraid they wouldn't work well on our 30 yr. old windows, but they are fine. They look nice, but came at the cost of a lot of aggravation.

The brackets were not in the correct shape to actually snap into place per the "easy" instructions. We got the brackets installed correctly, and then could not in any way get the blinds to actually go in the way they were supposed to. After reading several reviews here and despairing, I took a flat-head screwdriver and pressed down the middle part (the part that juts out, that the back of the blind is supposed to snap into) as far as it could go, to get it as flush with the wall as possible. Only then did the back of the blinds snap in.

Like others here, I also cannot install these blinds because the brackets are too small. I even took them to the store, and the guy at the desk had to put the bracket on the desk, put the blinds against them (upside down) and push with all his strength before it would snap in. No way are you going to be able to do this pushing upwards at home. Also, Home Depot will not provide installation services for blinds purchased online, so you will be stuck with these defective things. DO NOT BUY.

YOU WILL HATE INSTALLING THIS UNLESS YOU READ THE REVIEWS AND LEARN HOW TO BEND THE BRACKETS. The brackets come with the back 'clip' bent waaaaay to far up. I was on the verge of returning the whole bunch as I skimmed down through all the furious reviews saying the install was impossible and the instructions were useless. I found a review that explained how you have to bend the latch. Then it was reasonably easy. They look fine.

The product seemed great for our needs, and the price was very reasonable. We needed 8 cordless cellular shades for our sun porch. My husband recently finished installing all 8 of them, and they look very nice. They let the light filter in, and go up and down so easy! There were just small 2 problems. The instructions did not explain very well, how to snap the rail into place. Our son had done it before, so he had to come over and show my husband how to do it. Also, some boxes, had 3 brackets included, and some only had 2 brackets. All in all, it was a good experience and we are extremely pleased.

After reading other reviews, I just bent the clips a little with a screw driver and it popped right in. I tested one of these to see how they are quality wise and I was impressed. Nothing super fancy, but they get the job done. I would recommend for sure and there is a lot of savings over other options out there.
