If the shade is too long, is there a way to shorten the length?
Asked by: daw
I recently shortened two of these shades by about 12 inches. As mentioned in another response go on YouTube and you can see an example of how to do it. You need to be careful when you put the shade back together that all the cords are equal length or it will hang crooked. If so it is easy to fix but might take a few tries.

cellular shades - cutting them to the right width

if i buy these shades, is there a way for you to cut them to right width that I need at the store?
Asked by: Anonymous
I don't know about these particular cellular shades but others we've had we were able to cut down by using a chop or circular saw ...removed the end cap and cut off the length we didn't want. You just have to make sure you don't cut too close to the up and down mechanism.

Cut-to-Width Snow Drift 9/16 in. Light Filtering Cellular Shade - 29 in. W x 48 in. L is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 71.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great shades, awful bracket system First off, I love the shade. Clean look, no cords, just what I wanted. Then it all goes off the rails- what you're not told when you measure the window is to take into account the endcaps. I had to cut off an additional 3/4 inch with my jigsaw so the 40" shade fit in my 40" window. The plastic cut fine, but the paper shade frayed a bit. Then those blasted mounting brackets! First off the directions were vague at best. You're left to figure out on your own what is the front of the shade. The clips are hard to use even if you have very good hand strength. I had to use a screwdriver to pry the bracket apart so the header would click into place. I want to use the shades in other rooms but without improvements I won't buy these again.

I ordered wrong length should have been 84" it works ok but the cord doesn't release very good. The hanging brackets are a little difficult to mount due to the location of the screw hole location. I have had it a couple weeks and it's frustrating that it doesn't release properly, it does go up very smoothly. If I had ordered the right length I could probably live with it.

This is a good mid price brand of blinds and a much cheaper alternative to having blinds made to a custom size. These can be cut to a narrower width and you can also shorten them with a modest effort (I did). You have fewer color choices than custom so that's the downside. Good quality, straightforward installation. Recommended.

Feature that I like most was the 3 cord design for a 48 inch wide shade compared to 2 cord shades of that width. The 3 cords make for a lighter load per cord when raising the shade and should therefore last longer before the cords break...

But, they do not snap in very easily. My husband had luck on the first one, but the others took hours to finagle and snap in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from seems adequate, easy to adjust and install I've tried the Bali and the Designview and I found the Bali very difficult to hang due to the design of the metal brackets. Designview is similar in the blind itself, but different in the upper and lower plastic sections, and uses different metal brackets. Each bracket is drilled for two screws, compared to Bali's one, so I'm comfortable that they'll never fall off the window header. So if you want a corded blind, and it needs to be trimmed to a certain width, this is a pretty good place to start, and you can do the whole house for less than 3 Levolors.
