Can these shades be cut to 36"long?

I need 72"wide an 36"long also I need the color oatmeal.
Asked by: lady
You would order the appropriate width (72") and the 48" height option. The "extra" length will be at the bottom of the shade and not impact functionality.

Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. Unfortunately, this type of shade does not have a stain proof option. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Thank you for shopping Home Depot.

Can you see thru the shades from the outside, or do they provide privacy?

I am looking to put this on a 2nd floor bathroom window that lines a street so want to make sure that no one can see thru the shades when it is dark and the lights are on in the bathroom.
Asked by: Megan
Ive put these in two homes, love them. They let light through, but you cannot see through them.

It provides a clean, unobtrusive look that goes well in our renovated bathroom but would also work in almost any decor. The visible cords are essential to the top down/bottom up operation and look fine. We love how you can open it from the top down, as for us that allows a view of the trees outside but no roof line. Be aware the bottom does move around a bit as nothing anchors it to the window sill beneath. Be aware when ordering, to check the actual dimensions on the specs - we ordered a 21" at first which was too narrow. Returning it and ordering the 22" was very easy. Highly recommend.

I'm just upset that whoever cut the shade down (I ordered online, and apparently was 2 inches away from a stock size) took 2 inches off one side, instead of 1 inch from each side. This means the cords the shade hangs from are slightly off center, along with the center tab that is used to lift & lower the upper part of the shade. Frustrating! But a good price. Recommend you purchase in store, and dictate how the shade is cut!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice product - One Flaw The shades are nice and work as described. The only thing I don't like is the clips that screw into the wood. Very whimpy. I ended up modifying them because they wouldn't fit the profile of my Pella windows. All in all the shade is nice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great blinds Exactly what I need for patio French doors Able to open from top down Wish they would have come with hold downs for the bottom. Purchased Velcro to prevent from moving at bottom when opening door Great product for the money

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Install These shades look great and were fairly easy to install. I did need to use a rubber mallet to pop them in to the brackets as the fit was really tight. Also, it makes it easier to mount if you lower the top down.

We like the looks and functionality. They allow more light through than I'd like. The sizing was a problem though. One of them needed to be brought to HD to cut a bit more off (5/16") The employee that cut it cracked the top and bottom rails but said we could get a refund and reorder. I kept that one to have something to cover my window while the other one was shipped. Since the employee at HD said they had problems cutting small amounts (5/16") I'd ordered a larger size. When I brought it back another employee did the cutting. One cut was just fine ( I asked him to cut it slowly since that was suggested by mfg. and the first one was cut very fast) but the 2nd cut broke out a pc on the appearance side of the unit. He said they didn't cut many of these and had problems when they did. I ended up keeping the first. Not happy with the crack but it doesn't show and don't have time for hit and miss cutting tactics. A solution would be for the factory to cut them in 1/8" increments rather than 1/2". 1/2" is not accurate enough. I have another one that I'd like to get an 1/8" cut off of but not willing to take the chance. That one fits but not when you add the snap in ends supplied with the unit which takes up about an 1/8" overall. We'll see how they hold up. It would be nice if they came in darkout too. Also It would be nice if the bottom rail had a plastic clip to grab it like the top rail has.

So far, I like my set of new top down bottom up blinds but I've only had them a month or so. I like the way I can choose to have them closed at just the bottom of the window for privacy yet can see daylight at the top - or closed at the top like regular blinds. When I want the blinds totally closed, I keep them in the middle. I do open or close them every day and I do wonder if they will last the, at least, 10 years my regular blinds I had up to the same windows lasted since these blinds were much more expensive than the top down only that I have had through the years. I guess I'll find out.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice, but heed this installation note The mounting brackets are just cheap metal clips, and if you install them wrong you can't attach the blinds. Specifically, if you mount them on the vertical frame, you MUST leave at least one inch of head space above the clip, because attaching the blinds requires you to flex the clip upwards in order to snap it onto the blind. I didn't realize this, so I had a heck of a time installing. ended up removing clips, moving them down, and then it worked (but now I have extra holes in my window frame). ALSO, if you get it cut, make sure you CUT FROM BOTH ENDS. (I.e., a 2" trim should be trimmed one inch on each side). Otherwise the inner strings -- which you see if you go "top down" -- won't be centered.
